Youtube is made for creators.
Google has entered the film and TV production space through a partnership with Range Media to commission AI-themed films, such as Sweetwater and LUCID. This initiative aims to produce content to be sold to streaming services rather than using YouTube as the primary distributor.

Have you ever thought why Youtube is putting all their chips into AI right now? AI Image generation (Nano Banana), AI video generation (VEO3). AI Moderation, everything AI.
It's because they want to control content themselves.
They have been demonetising and terminating millions of channels this year, but you might think, why? Won't they lose revenue? No they won't, the advertisers already paid the money. Most YouTube ads run on an auction model where advertisers bid continuously. Fewer monetized creators just means less revenue splitting, not less revenue overall. Especially AI content has been purged off the platform, even though they're going all in on AI. Strange.
They want to create the content themselves, train their AI to make it the best image and video generating software there is, so they can make millions of videos without having the need to share revenue with other (AI) Youtubers.
Think about what Netflix did. They started by licensing other people's content, then slowly shifted to owning their own originals. YouTube looks like it's doing the exact same thing, except instead of hiring writers and directors, they're building AI to generate the content for them.
And Google owns YouTube. They already have Gemini and DeepMind. They actually have the infrastructure to pull this off.
YouTube Shorts makes this even easier to get away with. The format is so fast and so saturated that if your channel disappears tomorrow, viewers won't even notice. They just keep scrolling. There's always something new. AI can already copy your style, your format, your whole niche. People won't miss you because they won't even know you're gone.
This isn't new either. Since the adpocalypse back in 2017, creators have been complaining about demonetization being random and unpredictable. YouTube paid out over 70 billion dollars to creators between 2021 and 2023. Now imagine cutting even a fraction of that by replacing humans with AI content.
The uncomfortable question isn't really whether YouTube wants to replace creators. It's whether their incentives are quietly pushing them that way whether they admit it or not.
As long as Youtube can get away with banning and demonetizing anyone they want, this will be a danger in the future that every creator will be faced with.
What's the use of having you if their AI can make the content, keep all the money, and the audience never even notices?
