The bill targets Shelby County only for unprecedented, intrusive oversight of a locally elected DA by an unelected attorney general, without providing any basis for treating Shelby County differently. It singles out federal task force cases for special treatment, even though Tennessee law provides no basis for treating those cases any differently than the many cases brought independently by local law enforcement. The provision allowing the attorney general to seek a temporary replacement of a DA largely repeats language already in Tennessee law and is therefore unnecessary; to the extent it goes further, it is likely unconstitutional. Following President Trump’s visit to Memphis today, I spoke about the Memphis Safe Task Force and offered my perspective on its effectiveness.

DA Mulroy attended the Memphis Rotary Club meeting a the Pink Palace, where US Atty Mike Dunavant gave a presentation on the work of his office and the Memphis Safe Task Force. Present were WMC TV's Joe Birch and WDIA radio personality Stan Bell.

False positives (qualified voters disenfranchised) outweigh false negatives ( people being allowed to vote who shouldn't vote) by orders of magnitude.

Good to see Sen. Taylor finally acknowledge that crime has been steadily dropping — and that MPD isn’t cooking the books.
