Kenya Hosts National Rounds of the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition The National Rounds of the prestigious Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition, organized by the Kenya Space Agency (KSA) in partnership with the Judiciary, officially concluded today. The event brought together teams from leading universities across Kenya, including Africa Nazarene University, Strathmore University, Mount Kenya University, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Catholic University of Eastern Africa, University of Nairobi, Tharaka University, Kabarak University, Kisii University, and Moi University. Over the course of the competition, participating students engaged in rigorous and intellectually stimulating moot court sessions, demonstrating exceptional legal expertise and advocacy skills in the specialized fields of space law and international law. Among the 10 teams, Strathmore University emerged as the overall winner, with Kabarak University and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology securing the first and second runners-up positions, respectively. These teams will represent Kenya at the Africa Regional Rounds scheduled to take place in South Africa. The regional winner will proceed to the World Finals, to be held during the 77th International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in Turkey, as part of the 70th IISL Annual Colloquium, one of the world’s largest gatherings of global space agencies and industry leaders. Individual excellence was also recognized. Hope Makena from Mount Kenya University was named Best Female Oralist, while Emmanuel Kalama received the Best Male Oralist award. Speaking during the closing  ceremony, KSA Director General Brig. Hillary Kipkosgey underscored the importance of such initiatives in nurturing a new generation of legal professionals equipped with expertise in space law.

With the launch of its 2026–2030 #StrategicPlan, the University is making a clear and deliberate shift from excellence as a standard to impact as a responsibility. The Plan challenges the institution to move beyond what it has long been known for, and to confront a deeper, more urgent question of what a university truly is for. The next five years will demand discipline, courage, and collective commitment. But if the tone set at the launch is any indication, Strathmore University is stepping forward to help define it. #SUreFuture #BeStrathMore

Last week, the #StrathmoreLawClinic hosted an info session on the #DigihakiProject, in collaboration with Jua Sheria. The session explored fintech regulation in Kenya, covering tax, IP, and data protection & concluded with a Q&A on emerging legal issues in the #fintech space.

Firm Five Jurists conducted their #ClinicalLearningProject on succession law in Kagunduini, engaging the community on inheritance & estate administration. The project continues to link legal education with real community needs, making the law more accessible at the grassroots.
