The smokestacks were supposed to stay quiet forever while cheap imports flooded the market. Experts told communities across the state that their best days of making things were long gone. But a sudden shift in trade policy changed the rules of the game and brought this massive facility back from the brink. This is no longer just a story about metal and machinery. It is a living symbol of what happens when a nation finally decides its own workers are worth defending.

🚨 The company that literally invented Silicon Valley just packed up and LEFT California for good. Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) — born in a tiny Palo Alto garage in 1939 with just $538 — has officially relocated its global headquarters to the Houston area in Texas. This isn’t just any tech company. It’s the iconic firm that defined American innovation, created the blueprint for Silicon Valley, and powered the modern digital world. Now its top executives are gone from San Jose. Governor Greg Abbott welcomed them with open arms, calling Texas the best place to do business. Meanwhile, Gavin Newsom’s office responded with a cold shrug: “Companies come and go.” No press conference. No plan. Just three dismissive words. Over 350 companies have fled California in recent years, citing sky-high taxes (13.3% top rate), crushing regulations, and insane costs. Texas has zero state income tax — saving top executives hundreds of thousands annually. The symbolism is brutal: the birthplace of Silicon Valley just rejected its own home. If even the company that started it all can’t justify staying, what does that say about the future of every business still in California?

4/11/1803 In one of the greatest surprises in diplomatic history, French Foreign Minister Charles Maurice de Tallyrand makes an offer to sell all of the Louisiana Territory to the United States. As the foreign minister to Napoleon Bonaparte, Tallyrand was one of the world's most powerful men. Napoleon, convinced by Tallyrand, believed he could create a new French empire in North America. The French had long had a tenuous claim to the vast area west of the Mississippi River, which had been occupied by Native Americans for centuries, known as the Louisiana Territory. In 1800, Napoleon secretly signed a treaty with Spain that officially gave France full control of the territory. He then began to prepare France's mighty army to occupy New Orleans. When President Thomas Jefferson heard of Napoleon's plan in 1802, he was understandably alarmed as he wanted to expand the US westward. Having no way for the young Republic to challenge France militarily, Jefferson had his minister in France, Robert Livingston, negotiate to at least allow the US to control New Orleans, the gateway to the Mississippi River. At first the situation looked bleak, and Jefferson sent his young friend from Virginia, James Monroe to help Livingston. Fortunately for the US, the situation changed in 1803, when war between France and Great Britain was imminent, and Napoleon could no longer spare the military resources to control the Louisiana Territory. Realizing the powerful British navy would probably take the territory by force, Napoleon reasoned it was better to sell it to the Americans than let it fall into enemy hands. Livingston again meets with Tallyrand on this day in 1803, and to his astounding surprise, Tallyrand asks "What will you give me for the whole?" Meaning not just New Orleans, but the whole Louisiana Territory. Several weeks later, on April 30, 1803, the US signed a treaty with France to purchase the whole territory for $11,250,000. A little more than 2 weeks later, Great Britain declared war on France. Napoleon would write, "The sale [of Louisiana] assures forever the power of the United States, and I have given England a rival who, sooner or later, will humble her pride." That he certainly did, and we did!🇺🇲 history.com/this-day-in-hi…

Jared Isaacman dropped out of high school at 16 and started a company in his parents' basement with $10,000 his grandfather gave him. Tonight he's on the deck of a Navy ship, waiting to welcome four astronauts home from the moon. That basement company is now Shift4 Payments. It processes over $200 billion a year in credit card transactions, about a third of all restaurants, hotels, and casinos in the U.S. Went public in 2020. He ran it as CEO from age 16 until he stepped down to take over NASA last year. He also co-founded Draken International, which ran a fleet of over 100 retired fighter jets whose entire job was playing the enemy in combat training for U.S. Air Force and NATO pilots. He sold it to Blackstone for over $100 million. He has over 8,000 hours in the cockpit and can fly more than a dozen types of military jets. He personally owns a MiG-29, a Russian fighter that tops 1,500 mph, which he bought from the estate of Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen. It's the only one in private American hands. In 2009, he flew around the entire planet in a small Cessna jet in 61 hours and 51 minutes, a world record, to raise money for Make-A-Wish. In 2021, he paid for and commanded Inspiration4, the first all-civilian spaceflight. Four people with no astronaut training, three days orbiting Earth, $250 million raised for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Then in 2024, he went back up on Polaris Dawn and floated outside the spacecraft, held to it by a 12-foot cable, in the first spacewalk ever done by someone outside a government space agency. That same flight reached 870 miles above Earth, farther than any human had been since the last Apollo crew in 1972. He took over as NASA's 15th administrator in December 2025. In his first three months, he redirected $20 billion away from a planned space station around the moon and toward building a permanent base on the moon's surface. Right now he's aboard the USS John P. Murtha, about 50 miles off San Diego. The capsule carrying the Artemis II crew is going to hit the atmosphere tonight at around 25,000 mph. If the heat shield holds (it took damage on its last unmanned test), if the parachutes open, four astronauts splash down at 8:07 PM ET after a 694,000-mile trip around the moon. And the person waiting for them has been to space twice, walked outside a spacecraft, owns the only Russian fighter jet in private American hands, and started his first company as a teenager in his parents' basement. His call sign is "Rook."
Eric Daugherty@EricLDaugh

🚨 NOW: Trump NASA chief Jared Isaccman just PERSONALLY arrived on-scene for the splashdown of the Artemis II crew He really cares. They're about to enter the atmosphere HOT with the heat shield keeping them safe ALMOST THERE! 🇺🇸

@WhizBuckleyNFH @Pontifex If you want a just and lasting peace, you HAVE to be able to do both Otherwise, violent evil takes over A LOT of discernment is needed to to know when to draw the sword, though

For too long, warriors have been told they must choose between strength and spirit. Between defending the innocent and walking with God. That is a lie. The sacraments showed me something I could not have reasoned my way to: we are all one. God’s children - every last one of us. And God loves the person you hate most on this planet just as much as He loves you. That truth does not make you a pacifist. It makes you dangerous in the right way. It means you lead with love, empathy, and compassion - always. You extend it fully and without condition. But if that is met with violence, with terror, with an attack on the innocent - then it is time to act. Not from hatred. From love. For those who cannot defend themselves. The Christian tradition has never taught otherwise. Just War theology - developed by Augustine, refined by Aquinas, lived by warriors across centuries - is clear: standing between predators and the innocent is not a contradiction of love. It is love in its most costly form. I fully support religious freedom. Every person’s right to worship according to their conscience is sacred and we will defend it. But that freedom has a boundary. The moment your religion becomes a weapon - the moment it commands you to murder, to bomb, to terrorize - it has crossed from worship into warfare. And we will name it as such. For far too long, radical Islamic terror has taken American lives. The men and women who answered the call to defend this nation did not abandon their faith by picking up a rifle. Many carried both simultaneously. The Sacred Warrior understands something the critics don’t: Protecting the innocent IS the sacred act. Sacred Warrior Fellowship exists for those people. We walk alongside veterans and first responders - not to fix them, but to help them come home. Whole. Reconnected to the spirit that was there before the weight was added. The Sacred Warrior doesn’t celebrate violence. He carries it as a burden. And he deserves a community that honors what it cost him - and helps him find his way back. “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” - John 15:13 You can be both. You were made to be both.

God does not bless any conflict. Anyone who is a disciple of Christ, the Prince of Peace, is never on the side of those who once wielded the sword and today drop bombs. Military action will not create space for freedom or times of #Peace, which comes only from the patient promotion of coexistence and dialogue among peoples.

Trump and his cronies know this is their last chance to have unlimited access to America's natural resources, unchecked power to deplete them, and the ability to enrich themselves off of them. That's why he's going hog wild. He will not stop until every mountain is mined. Every ocean is drilled. Every forest is gone. And all protected wildlife and endangered species are driven to extinction. He doesn't care. He never has. He hates what makes America great. Everything he does is driven by one singular, self-serving focus: greed.

NOT a good idea to take a swing at federal agents with a 3000 lb vehicle And the only felony premeditation was on the part of the deceased, and her wife. Intent to interfere with legitimate law enforcement
