Managing Crohn’s disease during pregnancy can be challenging in part due to a lack of research into how the disease and its treatments affect maternal and infant. Active Crohn’s disease is associated with a higher risk of pre-term birth, low birth weight, and cesarean delivery. Yet, many medications used to maintain remission have not been thoroughly tested for safety in pregnancy. To address these gaps, the Pregnancy Inflammatory Bowel Disease And Neonatal Outcomes (PIANO) Study collects data on pregnant patients with IBD and their children. This research aims to assess the safety of IBD medications and provide answers to important questions for those who are pregnant or considering pregnancy. @PIANOIBD, spearheaded by @@UmaMahadevanIBD, has developed a module offering recommendations for different aspects of pregnancy care for mothers with IBD, including Crohn’s disease.
