13 lakh tonnes of garbage. Cleared in six months. While many cities debate landfill solutions, Indore acted. When 2010-batch IAS officer Asheesh Singh led the Indore Municipal Corporation, the city faced nearly 13 lakh tonnes of legacy waste. Instead of shifting it, his team used bio-mining, a scientific process that separates and recycles old waste. Machines rented at ₹7 lakh per month ran 14 to 15 hours daily. Within six months, the massive dump was processed. Wet waste became compost-like material. Plastics and metals were recycled. Low-grade plastic was converted into fuel for cement plants. Only a small fraction was discarded. Nearly 100 acres of land were reclaimed. Around ₹65 crore in outsourcing costs were saved. The cleared land is set to become gardens and a city forest. This was not just a cleanliness drive. It was governance that treated waste as a resource. #Indore #WasteManagement #GoodGovernance [Indore waste management, IAS Asheesh Singh, Urban sanitation model]
