Today I paid our monthly child care tuition. We pay more for child care tuition each year than we would for tuition at KU. Finding solutions to make child care more affordable, while also fully supporting early childhood educators, is a top priority for me. #ksleg

Yesterday I joined hundreds of advocates in Topeka to rally for Medicaid expansion. I met Melissa, who is such an inspiration. #ksleg #runforsomething

Secure automatic voter registration at Medicaid could help states reach almost all eligible but unregistered voters - and that's why 7 states + DC have such policies teed-up, as soon as @CMSGov gives the green light. @NPR has more: npr.org/2024/02/23/122…

7 states + DC have passed laws instructing their state Medicaid offices to automatically register eligible U.S. citizens to vote when applying for Medicaid. @NPR digs into why @CMSGov needs to act so states can implement those laws. npr.org/2024/02/23/122…

"The number of folks getting registered through Medicaid systems is minuscule. And I think it's time to sort of admit that the way we've been doing NVRA compliance is not working anymore," said @SamOlikerF in @NPR's @hansilowang's latest story. Read more: npr.org/2024/02/23/122…

California conducted a survey of #Medicaid beneficiaries that were disenrolled for procedural reasons not because they were found ineligible. Highly concerning but unsurprising results: dhcs.ca.gov/dataandstats/D…

📢 We applaud the House for putting aside partisanship & passing a tax bill that helps over 16 million children in poverty. W/ end of the enhanced #ChildTaxCredit in '21, child poverty spiked, & Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act of 2024 works to reverse trend.

To date, we've left more than $6.6 BILLION of our own taxpayer dollars on the table in Washington, D.C., by not expanding Medicaid. The federal government would cover 90% of the costs to expand — there's no reason our own taxpayer dollars shouldn't be coming back home to Kansans.

The problems being identified through the Medicaid unwinding process won't just go away after unwinding. We all have role to play in advocacy or administration to fix these issues for the long-term.

Implementation of policy matters. A lot. The current focus on Medicaid renewals is showing us that for many years some things haven't been implemented correctly, jeopardizing people's health care. clasp.org/blog/spotlight…

Key point from my colleague @SuzanneWikle -- as horrifying as the huge loss of Medicaid coverage under unwinding is, most of the problems with state renewal processes are not new, just more visible and at scale. We need to do better: clasp.org/blog/spotlight…

Lots of Medicaid coverage loss, high procedural termination rates and low ex parte renewal rates. But we don't have demographic breakdowns of who is losing coverage & whether the data is "normal". If so, lots of work to do to improve Medicaid renewals for the long term!

What are we learning from the current spotlight on Medicaid renewals during unwinding? A lot! This post summarizes high level takeaways from data that is available. Should see more data from CMS soon. clasp.org/blog/what-we-d…
