Incidentally, the TR3 Gold developers had also planned to use the dragon texture, but it never made it into the final version of the add-on.

The dragon and lion’s head depicted on some textures in the Greek levels are actually part of the intricately crafted door furniture or lock of the entrance door of Blenheim Palace, located in Oxfordshire.

The stone walls on the Cistern and Tomb of Tihocan levels were actually created based on a photo of the inner courtyard of Alnwick Castle. Arch is also decorated with zigzag patterns, which, unfortunately, were not visible in the original due to the low resolution of the textures

Regarding the remaster update: instead of adding outfits that have nothing to do with Tomb Raider, Aspyr should focus on fixing bugs and removing many AI-generated textures. I’m ready to provide Aspyr with the original materials used by Core Design in the 90s — just get in touch.

@TR_Texture @TheXanderCroft where did you found the beta? i never saw that level before

The beta featured a texture based on an image of a sacrificial stone. According to the book’s description, the victim was laid upon it, after which a ritual took place in which the heart was removed. The heart and blood were offered to the gods, reflecting beliefs of the era.

The TR1 beta files contain a texture of Mictlantecuhtli, the Aztec god of the dead, which did not appear in the final game. In Aztec mythology, Mictlantecuhtli dwelled in Mictlan, the cold, eternal realm of the dead, where those who died a natural death were believed to go.

@IsatisAngel is published in some scientific article, where they provide a bibliography, and I then find the book using that. It's different every time. At the moment, I've found about 50 books and probably about a thousand original textures (most likely a little less, I haven't counted).

@IsatisAngel (if I already know the name of a place or monument) and find the book I need that way; sometimes the book cover itself already shows the original, and it turns out to have even more originals; sometimes the original (found through a search engine)

Images showing a reconstruction of the Temple of the Magician (Uxmal, Mexico) and one of the towers of the main pyramid (Xpuhil, Mexico) were used by the developers as reference material. Here they are presented in high quality for the first time.

Another texture in the beta depicted a golden mask representing sun god Inti. A similar mask exists in reality and is housed in the National Museum of Ecuador. Notably, judging by the Legacy of Atlantis trailer, the remake will also feature rotating blades with a similar design.
