Today we’re unveiling @chemistry_fund - a new firm founded by @kshenster, @Mark_Goldberg_ and me. We’re also announcing a debut fund of $350M – dedicated to going all in with a select number of high conviction investments at the Seed and Series A. I couldn’t be more excited to team up with Mark and Kristina after the proverbial lightning bolt struck us all earlier this year: we got in a room (actually, several rooms, and offsites, and underground parking lots) and many working sessions and hummus snacks later, realized we had the exact same vision for how to build a venture firm from scratch (not to mention the chemistry to pull it off 😉). We discovered we were so remarkably aligned on what the industry needs - and let’s face it - what it does NOT need - that we had to burn the boats and build this new thing ourselves. One thing we were certain of: this new firm would strip away the excess and instead focus maniacally on the true essence - going all in with our founders from the earliest stages. We each said out loud what had been staring us in the face: venture capital isn’t meant to scale. Committing fully and wholeheartedly to each and every one of our investments may not be a recipe for rapid growth, but it’s our north star and built into the very fabric of Chemistry. All three of us will actively support each investment. We are the portfolio services team. No one else sits between us and our founders. We strive to bring excellence - one of our core firm values - to early-stage investing. I can’t stress enough how thankful I am to the mentors I’ve been fortunate enough to learn from both inside and outside of Bessemer, the founders I’ve had the pleasure of working with, the seed and angel ecosystem that has served as an amazing sounding board for us along the way, and, finally, the LPs who have taken the plunge with us. With incredible excitement for what’s to come… chemistry.vc/post/introduci…

In my last retweet, Victor explains the competitive and commercial considerations that influenced our choice to participate in this year’s inaugural EWC. We have not come to this decision lightly, and the video details our concerns about human rights in Saudi Arabia, the circumstances surrounding progress, and our path forward. Victor also shares our considerations regarding our best chance of affecting change and the role that we can play. If you haven't watched or listened to the video yet, please do, as it describes our shared and unanimous approach for Team Liquid as an organization. I agree with everything Victor said. Internally it required a lot of debate and compromise to arrive at a unified stance. After all, this is a deeply conflicting decision for all of us, as we will be accepting money from the Saudi government, despite our reservations. However, this is not the moment to hide and stay silent, and pretend that things will blow over. Instead, we will face the controversy and discontent that will justifiably come our way, and continue to support the causes that are important for TL. I believe we are making the right decision, all things considered, and I wanted to share my personal perspective and the experiences that shaped it. Saudi Arabia's human rights record is undeniably troubling. Over the past year, I've attempted to better educate myself on this issue and its status today. As part of this process, I and fellow TL executives have had conversations with women and queer individuals in Saudi Arabia, and consulted domain experts at multiple NGOs such as Amnesty International and Out Leadership. I myself also visited Saudi Arabia for the first time — in my own way, and not just as part of some trip pre-arranged for me. While there is still much for me to learn, a recurring theme from these experiences has shaped my opinion: Progress lies in engagement, not isolation. Through ongoing dialogue, exchanges, and opportunities to coalesce around shared interests, we might spark conversations and maybe, just maybe, even help inspire incremental change. Progress won’t be swift, and setbacks are inevitable, but in the meantime we at Team Liquid believe that the best way to create change is to include others, and show them that progress is possible. As a gay man, I understand the pain of exclusion. However, as a U.S. citizen, I know my struggles pale compared to what LGBT Saudis face daily. With full acknowledgement of this difference, here’s what I know to be true for myself and my journey: Gaming has been a lifesaver for me when I felt I never fit in. Even though there have been times when I didn’t necessarily feel welcome within the esports community itself, it’s been a consistent source of joy and camaraderie throughout my life — and I’m sure that many of you feel the same way about how important gaming is in your lives. This is why we are all so protective of it. Team Liquid is in a position where we can bring that message to many more people, as long as we continue to speak about it. I’m not suggesting video games alone can save the world. And to that point, I've been inspired by the debate, comments, and fans holding us accountable to our values across the internet. At the end of day, though, I maintain a belief in the transformative potential of gaming and sports. I hope sharing my thoughts sheds light on the perspective I had while contributing to Team Liquid’s decision, and why I remain personally optimistic.

From pioneering free-to-play to championing blockchain gaming: Maplestory continues to evolve! MapleStory, one of the most legendary games from Korea’s largest game studio, Nexon, is now coming to Avalanche with @MaplestoryU on a Subnet. Maplestory was one of the first games to popularize the free to play business model. Now, the famous MMORPG is innovating again with an emphasis on user generated content that players truly own. Players are able to add their footprint to the Maple Universe, creating worlds, and items, while being rewarded for doing so. In fact, most of MapleStory’s items will be created by players. Today is our final day in the LCS. 11 years, 7 domestic championships, 1 international title. Together, we have established an unrivaled dynasty and brought North America their first-ever international trophy. We have made the voices of the black-and-white fandom heard across the globe, the TSM chants ringing out at every venue. We have laughed, cried, and created lifelong bonds. None of this could have been accomplished without the unyielding support of our fans, the passion and hard work of the staff members that have made TSM what it is today, and the countless hours of practice and dedication from every player to don our colors. TSM is a movement, binding us all together no matter who we are or where we came from. From North America and Europe to South America and Asia, our hearts beat as one. The black-and-white will live on through all of us, through the fans, through our history. It will live on through all our teams that compete with that very same championship mentality and Baylife bravado. Our journey towards more championships doesn't end here. Thank you for the memories, LCS. Forever #TSM
