@drwgsi @olivia_soders @shaunking Wrong. Whites receive more in pure numbers because there are more whites in this country. Proportionally, percentage wise, absolutely not, whites receive well below their proportion of the population. Blue states in the past got away with high taxes due to state tax deductions.

@Multimodalmama @kimleonard Nope, we've never shut down the economy for a mild low-mortality virus, and even in cases of actually threatening viruses, the response was different. To boil it down to just "social distancing" is disingenuous. Voluntary distancing is different than what we're experiencing.

@kimleonard Btw that's not an endorsement of Biden ahaha. When there's a post-mortem we're going to see a real debate on this in medicine, and perhaps then you'll think differently, perhaps not. Right now the country is governed by fear. But at least we did not insult each other at all! 😁

@kimleonard Setting this precedent is an authoritarian's wet dream, a police state under a Republican president, again, where the hell are the opposition? And you know me. I'm not even a leftist, I'd appreciate a real left existing right now. The only protestors are conservative it seems.

@kimleonard We could do that, but as soon as we open we will have more cases. We will just have to psychologically accept that and prepare. If we base reopening on cases, we will be shutdown for much much longer than necessary, won't even recognize this country anymore.

@kimleonard He also instituted travel bans in record time. But apparently some people think it would be reasonable for him to respond to a parcity of cases by shutting the whole economy and society down right away, which is unprecedented.

@kimleonard Reopen but monitor, do more antibody testing, and protect the most vulnerable, and they can shelter in place.

@kimleonard Covid is not even close to as threatening as those viruses. But with smallpox and polio, the vaccines themselves generated herd immunity by giving people small amount of the virus, to build antibodies. Vast majority of the population already has antibodies. We should reopen.

@kimleonard We are never going to think critically if we just appeal to authority. Just the idea of labeling deaths covid when they aren't tested should on its face appear unscientific to you. And the idea that our immune system is stronger when we all stay inside.

@kimleonard The article claims, without evidence, that they are biased. And that their methodology isn't sound. Is the metholodology of just labeling deaths covid sound? But they are not the only ones. youtu.be/lsRay1wInBg I'm not gonna paste every person. Many individual accounts.

@kimleonard Every death is tragic but sometimes the hammer isn't the best tool compared to alternatives. If Sweden death rate is similar, then what did we actually do?

@kimleonard Herd immunity is how every single virus is dealt with because even with a vaccine, there is no guarantee it will work, just like with flu. Give credit to Obama who did not shut down the country over swine. You could say the same by the way, about POC unemployment during this.

@kimleonard And are you happy about that? Or do you think it would be a good idea to use incentives to repatriate some of that money, that manufacturing, through targeted policy, through tariffs, whatever seems best, but not just giving it up, especially for vital industries like healthcare?

@kimleonard Multiple antibody tests have shown that when tested for antibodies, vast majorities of population, in dispersed areas of this country, already had the virus. Leading to herd immunity, regardless of the response we took. Sweden understood, and I think they're better for it.

@kimleonard fee.org/articles/physi… it certainly is including probables. It's because I value a scientific approach that counting probables is making it seem worse than it is, therefore buttressing the argument for shutdown. Considering antibody testing, the mortality rate is very very low.

@kimleonard I agree about the testing shortage, we need to change our supply chains drastically and this virus revealed that. We're compromised as a nation. China threatened to hold back testing and blamed the virus on soldiers. Hopefully we will bring that manufacturing home.

@kimleonard Many doctors and health professionals now are speaking out about how they are pressured to label covid deaths that they simply don't know are, not to mention the comorbidities. The mortality rate is well below 1%, and yet we have people wanting lockdown until vaccine.
