When I first started LADS, I thought Rafayel being a literal merman was kinda random. I mean, sure, who doesn't wanna fuck a mermaid but that's beside the point. Then I thought about it. And also remembered the movie The Lighthouse. Which if you have not seen it, WATCH IT HOLY FUCK. The ocean is often described as "inner space" because we have no idea what the fuck is down there. That deep in its trenches is the gate to the cosmos, the beginning of existence. Rafayel paints things with illusions that can cause people to go mad. His song can drive one to suicide. Fucking Cthulhu shit right there. Lemuria was a place speculated over in the 19th century and H.P. Lovecraft adored the theory so much that he included it in his mythos.
