@monsterhunter45 I honestly had no idea there was a No Kings thing going on until I was getting ready to leave the hotel where I had stayed for a work-related training on Saturday. It was near the state capitol and there were only a handful of people walking around with signs.

This is true. I didn't even realize another No Kings thing happened again until this morning. And even better? The Japanese X appreciation society blotted out all the 3rd world BREAKING AI slop crap posts too! :D

@kunukunu Our regional arguments on pizza styles are easily just as varied as our opinions on BBQ. The same goes for styles of chili, or what toppings are allowed on hot dogs. Americans are passionate about their favorite foods!

I wrote a tweet praising American pizza last night. This may have triggered something. Now bunch of people are argu... well, sharing their thoughts about which region in the states has the best pizza.
Crypto_Jesus 🙏@verifiedjeff

@kunukunu New York City pizza 🍕. Don’t be fooled by what Chicago, Detroit, Connecticut, and other states call “pizza.” Jersey in a pinch. But NYC for the real thing. 🙏

@roikfbuwgc254 I drove almost 180 miles, one way, last Thursday so I could attend a training related to my job on Friday. Things are definitely more spread out here in the US!

@GrampsToolshed Basically someone over at X HQ said “I think the translator is working well enough, let’s flip the switch and see what happens”, then some Japanese dude posted about how much he loves American cookouts. The rest of it grew organically from there, and it’s glorious.

@hyperborea576 They recently reprinted the entire run of Micronauts in hardcover omnibus format, three volumes. Same thing for Rom: Spaceknight. I had to stay true to my roots, I bought all of them for my shelves so I could re-read the series without having to hunt down the original issues.

In the late 1970s, Micronauts toys were fascinating to me. Produced by Mego Corporation, they were interchangeable, with a 5mm peg-and-port system, incredible articulation, and often featuring translucent colored plastics and chrome pieces, and others with magnetic joints. They were high-quality toys, for sure. Then, in 1979, the Marvel comic book came out, and it was even more fascinating than the toys. Baron Karza was the ultimate villain of the Microverse. I would not be shocked to know that some of my friends here are fellow fans of the toy line and/or the comic book series, mostly written by the great Bill Mantlo.

Brewing beer or making wine is legal in all 50 states as long as it is for personal use, you are not producing over 100 gallons per year (200 gallons per year if there are 2+ adults in the household), and you are not selling it. It can be a fun hobby and amateur brewing is a growing niche. Unfortunately, it is still illegal to distill spirits such as whiskey or other liquors without a license, even for personal use, and those licenses are very difficult to obtain.

@Nerdcognito If you could spin an electrical turbine as much as WotC is trying to spin this garbage, you’d have enough power generation to run the USA grid for a decade, if not longer. They’re in full damage control mode and praying for short memories on the former fans’ part.

After years of Gygaxwashing, the Dan Ayoub / WotC apology video for how they treated original D&D founder Gary Gygax is getting roasted. All this proves is that the company is still trying to rewrite history. Does this apology change anything or is it just PR?

Oh, we can have rice with it. Over here we have the red beans and rice, over there we have the "dirty rice", there’s the option of gumbo over rice, okra with rice, or if you want plain rice just ask. We can go cook a pot of it.

@SandyofCthulhu What they're not telling you is the flan deaths in Illinois are because that's actually a Latino version of a slime monster that got imported from south of the border. Trust me, you don't want to go dumpster diving out back of the Mexican restaurants.

I have lived in California, Maryland, Texas, and Utah, and can absolutely confirm these are the correct causes of death for those states. I call on you guys to report likewise from your homes. Also, if you don't live in the USA, what are YOUR secret death causes? I'm pretty sure in Ontario it's Wendigos and Alberta it's Rogue Albertosauruses though.

@SandyofCthulhu Sounds like they got you the "slim" version of the roast beef, which is just the bread and meat. Standard loadout for the "Big John" roast beef includes lettuce, tomato, and mayo. They still stiff you on the cheese.

One of the team made a food run Jimmy John's for the team, and I guess I ordered wrong. I asked for a roast beef sandwich. What I got was two slices of white bread and some roast beef and that's all. I don't know who's to blame for this, but that is not what I expected from a sandwich made in 'Merica. I have never ever ordered from Jimmy John's again because I have no idea what secret cabalistic instructions I need to use for them to make a worthwhile sandwich.
Wall Street Apes@WallStreetApes

American shows how small the subs at Jimmy John’s have gotten since being purchased by a private equity firm “Hey, Jimmy Johns. What is this?.. Yes, it's a little John but What is this??” This is essentially a stuffed breadstick…. Private equity literally destroys everything

Bob was probably thinking a combination of two things. 1. “George Lucas was high on his own supply and couldn’t write his way out of a wet paper bag.” George was at a point where he was surrounded by sycophants who wouldn’t tell him that his ideas were utter dogwater, and he needed someone to tell him “no”. Midichlorians poisoned the well for years, and someone should have told the emperor he had no clothes way earlier in the story development cycle. 2. “Disney owns this now, so we don’t give a wet fart what you think about where the story should go, Goerge.” While technically correct, Disney’s lack of direction was ultimately worse for the franchise than Lucas’ earlier prequels, midichlorians and all.

Former Disney CEO Bob Iger on how he betrayed George Lucas' Star Wars vision: "George immediately got upset as they began to describe the plot and it dawned on him that we weren’t using one of the stories he submitted during the negotiations... George knew we weren’t contractually bound to anything, but he thought that our buying the story treatments was a tacit promise that we’d follow them, and he was disappointed that his story was being discarded... Now, in the first meeting with him about the future of Star Wars, George felt betrayed, and while this whole process would never have been easy for him, we’d gotten off to an unnecessarily rocky start.” What was Bob Iger thinking?

I love the comment about “What did her husband have to do to vote?” - Uh, maybe the same thing except for the marriage license? It’s not like the rules would change for dudes. When I got my RealID-compliant drivers’ license I had to hunt up my SS card and get in touch with the county clerk where I was born to get a birth certificate. These people just love to play the victim.
