In 2009, Dallas County prosecutors used James Broadnax’s rap lyrics to secure the death penalty in his case. A brief written on behalf of Travis Scott argues that rap lyrics are protected artistic expression and that prosecutors often exploit racial bias when presenting them.

BREAKING: #CarmenMejia just walked free after 22 years of wrongful conviction in Texas. While she was exonerated on Monday, she was not immediately released due to an immigration hold.
