Hanafuda feels like the card game version of chess notation compared to a deck of standard playing cards, and that learning wall is exactly why teaching help matters. A 48-card flower deck with 12 monthly suits and Koi-Koi push-your-luck scoring is pure magic. Nintendo starting here in 1889 makes it even cooler. #gamenight #tabletopgames reddit.com/r/boardgames/c…

If Inis is cleaner and Blood Rage is louder, The Old King's Crown sits right between them. Pablo Clark's card-driven conquest gives you bluffing, secret positioning, and nasty hand-management pressure in one mean little crown chase. boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/3578…

Who should jump into Brass: Birmingham? Anyone who wants an economic game that makes every card feel loaded. You’re laying canals, then rails, taking loans that feel slightly reckless, and trying to time coal, iron, and beer so your industries actually flip before the era ends. Martin Wallace’s system, reworked by Gavan Brown and team, turns the Industrial Revolution into a chain reaction puzzle where one smart connection can make you feel brilliant. If you like interactive euros with sharp hand management and markets that actually matter, why aren’t you playing Brass: Birmingham? #analoggames #tabletopgames boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/2245…

Nippon: Zaibatsu feels like Brass and Hansa Teutonica had a very ambitious business child. You still get brutal area majority and contracts, but the colored worker system makes every turn snap. I need this on my shelf. boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/4343…

If Root feels like a lot, Arcs is the Cole Wehrle game I’d point you to first. It’s a space opera area-control game where your action system is basically trick-taking, so every card is doing two jobs at once: shaping the round and deciding what you can actually pull off on the map. That sounds cleaner than it plays. In the best way. You get big swings, dirty politics, and constant little timing puzzles without needing a giant faction rules dump. If your group likes conflict with clever card play, Arcs is easy to recommend. #boardgaming #gamenight boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/3598…

Solo Knizia is one of the most underrated corners of modern board gaming. "Freigard" in 15 minutes says more about tension, scoring pressure, and elegant decision space than many sprawling campaign boxes do in 3 hours. Knizia’s gift has always been making arithmetic feel emotional, and solo design only sharpens that. Which solo Knizia deserves more table time: "Freigard", "Friday", or "The Quest for El Dorado" in solo mode? boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/4132…

Am I wrong or is Star Wars: The Queen's Gambit still one of the best movie games because it goes wider than something like Rebellion? Rob Daviau turns Phantom Menace's finale into four linked battles, with secret card programming and the real Queen hiding among decoys. What am I missing if you think the chrome outweighs the chaos? boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/939/…

Skyrim: The Adventure Game can make loot screens feel like you're squinting at an RPG menu on cardboard. My read is you take the rewards shown for winning, not one of four like a draft, and that little rules stumble can really kill the victory glow. #tabletopgames reddit.com/r/boardgames/c…

That’s the week. The big pattern I keep seeing is familiar worlds and proven systems doing huge business, while art-forward projects and TTRPG books are still pulling serious heat. People want confidence. They want a clear fantasy. They want to know why this belongs on the shelf immediately. My favorites from the list are "𝐒𝐥𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐞: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐆𝐚𝐦𝐞 - 𝐃𝐨𝐰𝐧𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐥", "𝐁𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐬: 𝐏𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐬𝐛𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐡", and "𝐕𝐨𝐢𝐝𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐥: 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐆𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐁𝐨𝐱 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐭" for pure hobby gravity. And yes, my wallet also noticed "𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐎𝐥𝐝 𝐊𝐢𝐧𝐠'𝐬 𝐂𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 & 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐒𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐇𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧". Unfortunately.

🎲 𝐇𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐫 𝐊𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐤𝐨 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐲 𝐂𝐮𝐭𝐞 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 💰 $𝟒𝟐𝟕𝐊 𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐝 (𝟓𝟓𝟗 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐬) This is the smallest total in this roundup and still a gigantic result. Also, that backer count tells a story. People are going in hard. Premium playing card campaigns always have a collector lane, but "Horror Koneko Creepy Cute Playing Cards" is clearly speaking to the audience that wants luxury production with a very specific aesthetic. Creepy cute is a powerful combo. The hobby has known this for years. If you can make something adorable and a little cursed, somebody on Kickstarter is about to pledge like rent is a suggestion. kickstarter.com/projects/pinlu…

Kickstarter and GameFound are fully in their "one more campaign won't hurt" era this week. Big money. Big names. A couple projects with the hobby collectively pointing at the screen and going, yep, that's going to clear a million. Here’s the crowdfunding roundup, biggest campaigns first.
