We lost a true icon today. #hulkhogan passed away at 71. What he did for wrestling can't be overstated, taking it from high school gyms and smoke filled VFW halls to where it is today. He is the Babe Ruth of wrestling. RIP #hulkster

Notice how winning the cup isn’t one of the reasons for joining the #isles The perception of this organization has to move from the cul-de-sac crew to Stanley Cup contenders!

Drouin said he talked to Brassard and Beauvillier about Long Island. Said everyone he spoke to loved Long Island, the area, the restaurants, and the suburbs. #Isles @NHLNetwork

So many #isles fans seem to be underplaying the legacy and impact of Aaron Ekblad. In reality, he is a HOF talent.

Interesting choices in roster building over the next few years. Left handed D-men : Shaeffer, Pelech, Romanov, Aitcheson, George, Pulkkinen, Odelius. How many is too many?

For those with memories longer than their noses, The Romanov (8 years !!!) signing feels a lot like the panic signing of Andrew Ladd after the #isles lost Okposo and Nielsen to free agency in 2016. How long before we hear about the overpayment for DeAngelo.

Soooo, the islanders traded an old, bald and dumb GM for a young, bald and dumb GM. Interesting.

Securing a 5 game regulation losing streak would be big for the #isles. Our placement before the draft lottery could realistically be anywhere from 7th to 13th. At the time of this tweet we are currently 11th.

Lou Lamoriello didn’t choose to trade Brock Nelson. Nelson forced him to make the move by not agreeing to a contract extension. Lamoriello was absolutely going to do the wrong thing. Do NOT give him a free pass for making that trade when he had zero intention of doing so. #Isles

A reminder that Sorokin has played in 33 of the #isles last 38 games and he is having another amazing performance tonight. He has played in more games than any other goalie for their team’s last 38 games.

The failure of a trade deadline for the #isles is not who was moved or wasn't, it's Ownership/Management having no organizational direction or vision that is inexcusable. The original plan was to resign our UFA's and was only altered when Nelson wanted more then 3 years term.

Re-signing back 34 year old veteran winger on a 2 or a 3 year deal makes 0 sense for a team that is not a Stanley Cup Contender. Teams are overpaying on everyone and our GM is deciding to sign back existing +30 year old veterans…. If Brock wanted to sign back with the #isles he would have never been traded.

Hearing sides are working on either a two- or three-year extension with an AAV under Palmieri's current $5 million

Malkin and Ledecky purchased the #isles solely for a real estate development project. They don’t care about the long term sustainability of the franchise. Leaving Lou in charge with 0 oversight and expectations doesn’t sound like owners who care about the on ice results. I wonder if they run their real estate development ventures with the same laissez-faire mentality.

Our greatest worries are a reality. The treadmill of mediocrity is where the #isles want to live.

ON BROCK NELSON: The following is from multiple sources regarding Nelson & #Isles and interest around the NHL: - Nelson’s first choice is to sign long-term with NYI. He’s close with several teammates, loves LI and the franchise, and believes in NYI’s potential to contend again. It is said that Brock feels very loyal to the Islanders, while also understanding he will be in high demand if he becomes a UFA. - Sources confirm what many of you would expect from Lou Lamoriello: as long as NYI are within shouting distance of a playoff position, Lamoriello is unlikely to trade Nelson — even if the President/GM does not have an agreement on a new contract with Nelson by the trade deadline. - Despite a comment on a recent ESPN Islanders telecast that “it’s the worst-kept secret” and other outlets reporting rumors that Nelson is bound to become a member of the Minnesota Wild by the summer, Brock nor anyone else in the Nelson camp has indicated this. What is accurate, of course, is that GM Bill Guerin and the Wild will pursue Nelson in a trade or if he becomes a free agent. - It is believed that the Wild are among at least six teams prepared to offer trade packages for Nelson IF closer to the March 7 deadline Lamoriello ever conveys that he’s open to dealing him. - Where does all this leave us today and almost certainly until March 1 at earliest? Lamoriello will use all the time he has to make a decision, as is the Hall of Fame GM’s history and as he should. Trade deadline is March 7. Brock Nelson is a special Islander and this is a special case. - Lamoriello also runs the risk of not trading Nelson, the Islanders not making or not going far in the playoffs, and losing this tremendous player — who turns 34 at the start of next season — for nothing. ***So that’s it from me on this subject for a while, probably. My thanks to everyone who made it this far, and for sharing your respectful views in the replies.
