We have previously enacted requirements to teach students about the evils of communism.
Now, we have new History of Communism standards adopted so that our students will learn the brutal truth about Marxism-Leninism.

The State Board of Education adopted the new History of Communism Standards, strengthening Florida’s already high-quality social studies standards. The new History of Communism standards will ensure students learn the truth about how communist regimes suppress freedoms, abuse power, and inflict widespread suffering. I am proud of this work and what it means for Florida’s future.

These last several weeks, I must admit, have been difficult for me. Some teachers won’t even speak to me anymore, and a small number of students who used give me a first bump in the hallway now turn and walk away when they see me.
Still, my focus hasn’t changed, and I do have lots of students and teachers who strongly support me. I am still absolutely devoted to my students, their growth and their freedom to think.
Adversity reveals what we value. If I had to do it all over again, I would without hesitation.
