People don't realize how much strength it takes for you to pull your own self out of a dark place mentally. If you've done that, I'm proud of you.

Absolutely. We always celebrate the winners of a race without asking whether the finish line is even somewhere we want to be. It often takes more intelligence and backbone to walk away from a lucrative game because it’s eating away at your soul than to see it through to the end. Who among you has ever walked away from a “sure thing” just to finally be able to breathe again?

There is a specific kind of intelligence that is almost never celebrated but is consistently effective: the intelligence that recognizes when the game being played is not the game worth playing.

Five bags of groceries for under $100 sounds like a fairy tale from a distant galaxy these days. Nowadays, that amount barely gets you three avocados and a pack of toilet paper. I genuinely feel sad that current 20 something's missed the era of $500 rent, $3 happy hour, 5 bags of groceries for under $100, multiple job offers immediately after applying, and going out to party without social media apps at your fingertips. IT WAS A TIME.
