It’s because Arsenal are nearly always the protagonists in media narratives, vs other clubs as the antagonists. They’re perceived to be the central character in the story, so failings are somehow more a choice when compared to other clubs

It’s Rice’s relative lack of ability to receive on the half turn that is one of Arsenal’s biggest problems. If there’s an opponent close to him he will generally only pass backwards again - unlike Partey who is one of the best at beating that first press

@Zonal_Marking Even the idea of ‘consistency’ is massively misused in football. If the fourth best team win around half their games, they’re going to lose/draw to lots of teams beneath them. It’s not a failure of consistency but of not being good enough to win more

The second sentence here is spot on. Next up: Fulham/Norwich aren't somehow embarrassing for yo-yoing, their level is just between the 18th-22nd best clubs in the country every year, and that's fair enough.

Risk and costs are higher now because the "reasonable" people in the West always choose lower risk today to guarantee higher risk tomorrow. Clearing the UKR skies after a warning period is risky. Letting Putin destroy Ukraine is riskier, & a human and moral disaster. 8/13
