According to results from the 2024 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), American high school graduates are getting dumber each year. About half lack fundamental math skills and 25% are "functionally illiterate" meaning they can read short text, like menus, but cannot read longer or complex material. Proficiency scores gradually decline, but there's a major disconnect because graduation rates have gradually increased. If students are getting dumber, why are the graduation rates going up? This is because the education system doesn't care about the competency of their graduates. Competency is not the aim. The aim of the system is to manufacture controllable, indoctrinated workers and activists (aka useful idiots). The system produces graduates who can't reason, aren't resilient, are financially ignorant, in debt, unhealthy, with no real world skills...but they are very politically activated. They are filled with resentment and this resentment is a powerful force when directed at a specific cause. Is this a flaw in the system?
