@SaikatmanMD Yes and no. It’s a short tweet and can’t include everything… UK NICE guidelines say 80 for ACS only (and chronically transfused patients and major haemorrhage managed differently)

@TransfusionWM This is very important regarding the Hb threshold for transfusion. A lot of malpractice is going on related to this. Shouldn't we mention to them to keep the Hb threshold for cardiac function compromised patients to 80 g/L ?

@Advo_D @WilliamAird4 I disagree. “Anaemia of acute disease” is definitely a thing. Most hospital inpatients will drop their hb from baseline by 10g/l (I have seen this referenced but don’t ask me where!)

@WilliamAird4 But this kind of "picture of iron deficiency caused by inflammatory response" is something you only get after inflammation has gone on for quite a while, no? I've never seen someone with that picture due to a random short-term illness.
