Congratulations to our Urbana Middle and Urbana High students who participated in the county NHD Competition today. You make me proud! 6 projects advance to states in May! Congrats to my daughter who also is advancing from Oakdale. @UMSHawks

My 8th grade students visited the Black History Exhibit Project today. This exhibit, created by OHS students, focuses on local African American stories through their historic struggles and achievements. This is a great way to start Black History Month w/ @UMSHawks. @FCPSMaryland

Thank you to all those who have served, especially want to recognize my dad, grandfather and cousins for their service. @UMSHawks annual Veterans Day Honor Walk is an opportunity to recognize those in our community for their service. THANK YOU!

Students deconstructed the Preamble of the Constitution. Creating group posters on their assigned section. They also practiced paraphrasing by creating a modern version of the Preamble. Thanks Mr. Kibler @UMSHawks for joining period 2 today!

This week we paused to reflect and honor 9/11 through the @Sept11Memorial Digital Learning Experience by listening to the stories of those directly impacted. Students did a collaborative warm-up on why the stories are important & a reflective exit ticket. @UMSHawks

We had a great first week back! To end the week we collaborated to brainstorm about community agreements & constitutions to create our own Class Constitution using ideas from all 5 periods! Tomorrow we vote after reviewing the rough draft today! @UMSHawks

And just like that…the UMS class of 2025 becomes the UHS class of 2029. Go Hawks!

Our 8th grade Hawks get to enjoy an afternoon just for them after their Promotion Ceremony. Our MTSS team provided both outdoor and indoor activities to help celebrate the class of 2025!

The “Promotion Ceremony” for the UMS class of 2025 was picture perfect this morning! A most special of days for our 8th graders and their families. Thank you to all of the UMS Hawks that worked so hard behind the scenes to make this such a memorable event!

We played Monopoly today as our last lesson in Unit 7: Industrialization. The game was originally developed by Lizzie Maggie in 1904 to show the evils of hoarding wealth like Rockefeller and Carnegie. A fun way to end 8th grade with my Hawks! @UMSHawks

The Hawk Nest hosted the, “Celebration of the Arts”! Our community was welcomed to complete a scavenger hunt that walked them through all different aspects of the arts at UMS! Thank you to each of our teachers and staff that worked effortlessly to pull this off! @FCPSMaryland

Students in pd 4 learned about Urbanization in our Industrialization unit and then followed directions in a collaborative game to create an urban environment from colony to city. Great activity for No Tech Friday! @UMSHawks

The second night of the UMS Spring Band Concert was held tonight at the Hawk Nest. We celebrated the 7th, 8th & Hawk Jazz bands. They were awesome! Mr. Conrad’s leadership is always appreciated! Go Hawks!

The Hawk Nest hosted the 2025 6th grade spring band concert tonight. We had three different periods represented tonight. Thank you Mr. Conrad for your leadership as the UMS Band Director.

The UMS musical, “Adventures of a Comic Book Artist” is a true hit! Come join us this Friday, next Thursday & Friday at 6. Watch as our heroes & villains come alive from Stanley’s comic books. Thank you Ms. Barnes for your leadership as the UMS Director. @FCPSMaryland

And we have lift off at UMS today. Our Hawks have been designing hot air balloons in their 8th grade CTE Engineering classes. My hope was that one would make it over the Hawk Nest roof…goal accomplished! Great job Ms. Hall w/ designing lessons that always engage your students.

Period Four started their Interactive Notebooks today for Unit 6. Each page has a dedicated place for helping students organize the information they are learning about the Civil War. #interactivenotebook #americancivilwar

We worked on our discourse skills this week by using the Fish Bowl variation of the Socratic Seminar to prepare for our Causes of the Civil War Summative. Student led classes are my favorite. @UMSHawks
