NASA’s Artemis II mission is expected to begin its journey around the moon this year, and UNB is thrilled to be tracking the Orion spacecraft!
NASA has selected UNB as one of only three Canadian contributors helping to track Orion during its 10‑day moon mission.
Our involvement brings together the expertise of #CubeSatNB, the department of electrical & computer engineering, the department of geodesy and geomatics engineering and the UNB Earth Station—a powerhouse team supporting hands‑on learning and research in satellite communications.
As part of a global network of academic partners, commercial providers and volunteer stations, UNB will help passively track Orion’s radio signals on its voyage and orbit of the moon, contributing real data to a historic mission.
Artemis II marks NASA’s first crewed mission to the moon in over 50 years. Four astronauts will launch aboard the Space Launch System rocket, travel around the moon in Orion, and return to Earth. They will test critical life‑support, navigation and communication systems to pave the way for future lunar exploration.
