As part of our #MentalHealthforAll initiative we asked, “what are your hopes from the world for young people with disabilities in 2025?” “I’m Ashwini, part of the Social Work team at Ummeed Child Development Center…” Story continued in the comments.

“For 2025, my biggest hope is accessibility from institutions. During interactions, we ask parents and their children about their hopes, and their answer is always the same: inclusion and acceptance. In 2025, I hope the world becomes a kinder, more inclusive place.”

“If I see my uncle and aunty, twenty years back, the situation was different, but still, I don’t see many spaces where parents can seek emotional support. Agar woh space mil jaati jaha unko guidance milein, then the world would be a different place for them.”

“If anything could be done differently, I believe it would be providing parents with greater awareness and education about interacting with children with disabilities. There is also a need for spaces where parents can talk about their emotions.”

“…and without societal acceptance, he felt left out. Even when he played with other kids, bullying used to happen. The motivation to help him influenced my decision to work with children with developmental disabilities and their families.”

“When parents come for social work sessions, many share similar stories: unke child ko bullying ho raha hai, neighbours don’t accept them, play ke liye jaate hai toh bachhe ‘pagal’ bula dete hai. Such kinds of words used in our day to day life, uska impact family ko hota hai.”

Our Children's Day celebration at Holy Name High School, Colaba, was packed with energy and laughter. In another session, music added its magic with some lively jamming, featuring guitars, clapbox beats, singing, dancing, and pure joy for all the families.

We wrapped up the month with a fun and relaxing yoga session, set to catchy tunes like "Oh Tamatar Bade Mazedaar." It was a perfect blend of movement and laughter.

November at Special Hangout: A Month of Flavor, Fun, and Fitness! We began the month with a cooking session led by Chef Reina and Chef Ambar, where participants learned to whip up Teriyaki Noodles and refreshing Iced Tea.
