These governments did not just ignore God, they often rejected Him and actively tried to eliminate religion because it threatened their authority. People will bring up the Crusades, but even secular historians will tell you those numbers are nowhere close. But this is not just about counting bodies. It is about worldview. Jesus taught us to love our enemies and value every human life, so when someone kills in His name they are going against what He actually taught. The real question we should be asking is this. Which worldview gives us a reason to believe human life has value and that killing is truly wrong in the first place?
