Tell me in what way does removing an eye create a modern day identity? Unless pirates are back in style, maybe it’s understood that a doctor could perform affirming surgeries, and not mutilate an eye based on the dad’s competitive nature. There’s all to gain in affirming a new identity. You gain squat from removing a functional eye.
