A solar panel's lifespan is just 15 to 20 years. After that, efficiency drops and it needs replacing. Each panel is built from glass, aluminum, silicone, silver, copper and polymers. While glass and aluminum can be recycled, the silicone, silver and polymers (the most mining/energy-intensive components) are rarely recovered due to the cost and difficulty involved. Because of this, the panels simply end up in landfills. By 2050, solar panel waste is estimated to hit 78 million tons, according to the International Renewable Energy Agency. This is the dirty secret of 'clean' energy: short lifespan, heavy mining, and a growing toxic waste crisis.

Frog, I have solar on my house, and my husband was in the alternative energy game. He was also a nuclear engineer. Yes, solar is relatively cheap, and we highly recommend it for homeowners and building construction. That said, nothing beats nuclear for longevity and cost over time. Once built, nuclear is a cash cow. Nothing is better. As I’m sure you are aware from the links people have cited, solar disposal is a problem, as is harvesting its components.

It is of great civilizational importance that people in power including @TulsiGabbard whom I greatly appreciate stop using "radical Islam" and "Islamism" as the operative terms. There is only Islam. Some individual Muslims decide to adhere to their religion's tenets faithfully (in which case they magically become "radical Islamists") while others choose to ignore such tenets. Islam is a very clearly stated set of codified principles in the Qur'an, the Hadith, and the Sira. Sharia law is codified in various sources. It is all under Islam. Innumerable Islamic leaders and scholars have made the exact point that I am making here. There is only Islam.

The Pen That Saved Apollo 11 From Being A Permanent Moon Tomb. When Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin returned to the lunar module after their historic moonwalk, they realized they had a catastrophic problem. While maneuvering inside the cramped cabin in his bulky spacesuit, Aldrin's life-support backpack had accidentally smashed into the wall. The impact completely snapped off the vital circuit breaker switch needed to arm the ascent engine. Without that specific switch, the engine could not ignite, meaning the two astronauts would be permanently stranded on the lunar surface with no hope of a rescue mission. With only hours of oxygen remaining and Houston control scrambling for a workaround, the situation seemed entirely hopeless. The engineers on Earth frantically tried to find a way to bypass the electrical system, but time was rapidly running out. Exhausted and facing the very real possibility of dying 240,000 miles from home, Aldrin decided to take matters into his own hands.
