Former Chancellor Nadhim Zahawi, forced to resign after lying about HMRC tax situation, is now in line to become Chair of Daily & Sunday Telegraph titles after brokering a deal for Barclay family and Middle East backers....if the deal is accepted. Jeez. theguardian.com/media/2023/aug…

I was with our brilliant @tarkahouse oral health team at #northdevonshow today & was out of contact for most of the day. Surprised & delighted by the reaction to my tweet about dental nurse registration & pleased that @GDC_UK have responded so swiftly. Thank you😊

Huge issues with access to dentistry in the UK & dental nurses are critical members of the dental team. Without them we can’t work. How does your policy on stopping newly qualified dental nurses work to protect patients @GDC_UK ? @LordTobySays @SBDNuk
Ian Mills@ruarikeir

Officially informed by @GDC_UK that dental nurses must cease all clinical duties between qualification and registration as “no longer in training & not registered”. Threats of criminal prosecution if continue to work. 🤦🏻 @TheBDA @EddieCrouch @ChrisGroomb @SBDNuk @LordTobySays

@mtmallon @DentistGoneBadd It can actually be less believe it not! Private practice hygiene hourly rate is higher than NHS practice therapy in my experience... And in the same mixed practice

@DentistGoneBadd An issue for dental therapists is the hourly rate is the same for just hygiene . Many will just revert to doing basic hygiene as its easier. Little or no incentives from the practice owners to do fillings etc.

1) The primary problem is that the Government doesn’t fund NHS dentistry properly. It doesn’t matter how many new dentists are trained, they will soon leave the NHS once they fully appreciate what is going on. 2) Dental therapist fillings are equal to those placed by dentists
Jayne Shackleton@JayneShackleton

@fredsirieix1 In Restorative dentistry it is a poor substitute for a Dentist!! The answer is the Government must increase more University training places for Dentists asap!!!

@BenHyg Threatened much? I think dentists who feel the need for spouting this type of boll**ks is usually to hide their own insecurities. Easy to say but ignore and laugh x

I had to log off twitter yesterday because I saw no less than 3 dentists being incredibly rude about Dental Therapists and their skills, with comparisons to butchers and carpet fitters amongst other things. I can't believe people think it's ok to talk about colleagues like that
Emily Banks@BmilyEanks

Also demonstrated in the comments is a large amount of contempt from dentists towards therapists. This happens all the time. It’s exhausting. P.s. I am, and I train spectacularly skilled dental clinicians. Get with the times and stop seeing us as a threat, jeez.

@JayneShackleton @fredsirieix1 Dental Therapist training is a 3 year degree at most of the UK's Dental Schools! Which part of the curriculum are you suggesting isn't good enough? I am genuinely interested

@fredsirieix1 I am a Dental Hygienists and I’ve found that Dental Therapists training is not good enough! They are only trained to clean teeth with a machine and are not taught to hand scale at all which is a crucial skill needed in treating patients with gum disease. If this standard is the

@BmilyEanks Speaking as a dentist Emily you do have to remember that dentists come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. Unfortunately that means that some dentists are total knobheads.

@BSmytheee @BmilyEanks They do accept us Dental Therapists in their private practices. I've worked as a Dental Therapist in a private practice for many years alongside my 2 Dental Therapist colleagues. The business model we use is very successful!

@BmilyEanks A real dentist can seamlessly continue with advanced treatments and deal with complications, without having to be continually supervised. Real dentists will not accept therapists in their private practices.
