Happy International Women’s Day! ♀️💚 This image taken in Nottingham in 1917 shows the city’s women window cleaners, who were the first women in Nottingham to ever be allowed to wear trousers in public! As they were only permitted to wear trousers for safety at work, they would have to put their dresses on straight after they finished work – nevertheless it was certainly a sign of progress. Celebrate all the wonderful women of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire today and head to Bromley House Library who have joined forces with Nottingham Women’s History Group. 📚 Displays about women with links to the Library ✍️ Talks on three of Nottingham’s neglected authors: Eliza Sarah Oldham, Annie Matheson and Rose Fyleman 💬 Chat about the remarkable women from our city’s history Image credit: Picture Nottingham, picturenottingham.co.uk #internationalwomensday #internationalwomensday2026

Who says horses can’t fly? 🐴✨ Situated in the heart of Nottingham’s retail district is the timeless boutique shopping destination and iconic walkway, the Flying Horse Walk. As a nod to its unique name, both entrance facades of the shopping arcade feature three-dimensional horse sculptures – with wings of course! The walkway, which takes its name from the 17th century Flying Horse Inn and subsequent Flying Horse Hotel, now houses a range of independent shopping boutiques. From art galleries, jewellery and designer fashion to local produce at the Cheese Shop and coffee at 200 Degrees, there’s plenty to discover. 📍 Flying Horse Walk #FlyingHorseWalk #Nottingham #Shopping

Good morning Nottinghamshire! 💚 🏹 The enchanting Belvoir Castle, is truly something out of a fairytale. Did you know Belvoir ows its name to the breathtaking views visible from the castle? The name derives from the French ‘belle voir’, meaning ‘beautiful view’ but has since evolved to be pronounced ‘beaver’. It certainly remains one of the most magnificent and beautiful Regency houses in England. 🏰 #BelvoirCastle #Nottinghamshire

📍Attenborough Nature Reserve Close to the bustling town of Beeston and right where you least expect it, you’ll find the expansive Attenborough Nature Reserve. With 145 hectares of lakes, wetland and grass, the reserve thrives as a natural habitat and attracts all sorts of wildlife. Though the nature reserve isn’t named after national treasure and world-famous naturalist Sir David Attenborough (but rather after the charming village that sits beside it), he did have the honours to open the reserve back in 1966. Who knew such a serene and peaceful space was only a short drive from Nottingham’s city centre. 📸 by @himynameisnic on Instagram
