“Racine Red” is the most prominently used color across SC Johnson's campus! Racine Red appears everywhere, from the filing cabinets and furniture in the Administration Building, to the brick and flooring in the Research Tower. Check out these photos featuring our favorite color!

Join us in celebrating the 25th anniversary of Sam Johnson's Brazil expedition this month!  In 1998, Sam decided to re-create his father's 1935 trip to Fortaleza, Brazil. The trip had such an impact on H.F. Johnson, Jr. that Sam felt inspired to follow in his father's footsteps.

Fortaleza Hall has many unique characteristics to help evoke the feeling of being in Fortaleza, Brazil. For example, check out this 14-foot waterfall with a hanging garden behind it! These plants are primarily native to Central and South America.

Today, it’s common for people to listen to music or a podcast while they work. During the 1940s, baseball games were broadcasted over the Administration Building's PA system so everyone could listen while they worked!

One of the most captivating features of Fortaleza Hall is the airplane suspended from the ceiling. Check out this video of “The Spirit of Carnaúba” while it was on the ground recently for some maintenance, and be sure to join a tour of SC Johnson’s campus to see it in person!

Waxbird Commons has many historical features, including this monument! It's from our factory and refinery in Fortaleza, Brazil and was placed in 1948. We shipped it back to Racine when the building was sold 15 years ago to commemorate Brazil's role throughout our history.

Fortaleza Hall is named after Fortaleza, Brazil, where H.F. Johnson, Jr. spent much time researching carnauba wax. The building has many nods to Brazil, including this mosaic, which comprises 19,200 pieces of four kinds of sustainably harvested wood from South America.

When designing the Research Tower, Frank Lloyd Wright included many thoughtful elements. There was even a “Causerie” or model apartment where SC Johnson's products could be demonstrated on different surfaces for VIPs and other clients. It later became H.F. Johnson, Jr.’s office!

The Great Workroom in the Administration Building has evolved since the building opened in 1939, changing configurations as departments came and went. Carpeting now covers the original red rubber tiles, and offices and the mezzanine level railing were added in the 1970s.

One of the main features of Fortaleza Hall is this mural. It features 8,000 square feet of precast white concrete with rasterized images of carnauba palms in Brazil. The images were recreated from photos taken during H.F. Johnson, Jr.’s 1935 expedition to Fortaleza, Brazil.

The plane that hangs in Fortaleza Hall is a replica of the original plane used in the 1935 trip to Fortaleza, Brazil by H.F. Johnson, Jr. It was flown by Sam Johnson and his sons in a re-creation flight in 1998. Check out this video of the interior of “The Spirit of Carnaúba!”

Did you know the Administration Building has over 200 different shapes and sizes of brick due to the radii variations in the building? Wright wanted to use green brick to fuse with the color of glass in the building, but green was unavailable, so the iconic Racine Red was used.
