It's reaffirmed in the FFXVI #LOGOS lorebook that the term 'Eikon' derives from the Eikonoklastes, a class of automaton developed by the Fallen during the Magitek Wars. These weapons were so terrible that their capacity for devastation eclipsed anything humanity had ever known. However, the Eikonoklastes were initially destined for a different purpose – their name means ‘Destroyer of the Divine’. Omega - a quadrupedal sentinel encountered at the Sagespire in the Echoes of the Fallen DLC - is one such entity, and can only be accessed once the cataclysmic Primogenesis has been summoned by Ultima. There are numerous subtle biblical references associated with Omega, itself named after the last letter in the Greek alphabet (Ω). The earliest manuscripts of the Christian Bible were written and copied in Koine Greek, the common language of the Eastern Mediterranean region in the centuries preceding and following the life of Jesus. This includes the apocalyptic Book of Revelation, which brings the canonical New Testament to a close. Revelation contains the famous verse, “‘I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,’ says the Lord, ‘who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.’” The phrase is delivered both by God himself and by Jesus, asserting their divine role(s) as the source and ultimate fulfilment of all things. The second phase of the climactic battle with Omega draws inspiration from this, such as the automaton enhancing its attacks with the ability ‘Pantokrator’, an anglicisation of the Greek ‘παντοκράτωρ’. This is a recurring word in the original Book of Revelation that is traditionally translated as ‘Almighty’, appearing alongside God’s declaration that he is “the Alpha and the Omega”. A similar allusion accompanies the in-game trophy awarded to the player for crafting the Omega Weapon, a sword that can solely be forged using materials collected in the Echoes of the Fallen expansion. The trophy is titled ‘My Reward is with Me’, a quote from the concluding chapter of the Book of Revelation and the final instance of ‘Omega’ in the Bible: “And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.”
