We asked the Saudi Ethnographic Diary about their approach to preserving the character of space in the latest interview in our upcoming issue, #HowDoWeRemember?

The team behind the Diary told us that “it isn’t merely a visual archive — it’s a form of consolation, a way to internalize a space’s soul, even if it’s just a picture.”

The Diary has been documenting the alleys, neighborhoods, and cities of Saudi since 2017 to make the change they experience visible. They are also building an archive for their stories and memories, which is currently covering 3 cities, as well as 23 neighborhoods.

توثق المفكرة شوارع وحارات ومدن السعودية منذ ٢٠١٧ م لجعل التغيير الذي تمر به عملية مرئية، وتهدف لبناء أرشيف يجمع قصصها وذكرياتها. شملت تغطيتها حتى الآن ثلاث مدن (جدة، والمدينة المنورة، ومكة المكرمة) و٢٣ حارة.
