Our 8th graders just finished an awesome project on endangered species! They dove into research, got creative, and shared some eye-opening facts to help spread awareness about protecting these animals. Posters were created for over 400 different species!

Congratulations to WMS 8th grade students, Jack R. and Nori F., who were selected to perform in the Nebraska Wind Symphony All-Star Trombone Concert on Sunday, March 1st. Way to make WMS proud Jack and Nori!

8th grade science students are learning about genetics and heredity. They played Jenga to simulate the ups and downs of mutations to learn how some mutations to an organism's DNA can be helpful, harmful or neutral.

These 5 students pictured competed in the Mad Hatter Quiz Bowl today at ESU3!  (Pictured l. to r. - Davis L., Aneesh G.-R., Jackson K., Raphael A., and Wyatt H.) There were 32 teams competing today.  Our team won 3 straight rounds (decisively) before falling out in the next 2.

Congratulations to the WMS students who were all selected to the 2026 Wayne State College Junior High Honor Band that took place on Sat., Jan 24 at Wayne State College. It was a full day of making music with 125 other students from around Nebraska.

The WMS Spelling Bee was held on 1/14. A huge shout out to all who participated! The top 4 spellers from the contest will head to the District Spelling Bee on Fri, Jan. 30th. Congratulations to our top finishers! 1st - Wyatt H. 2nd (tie) - Griffin H. & Ash H. 3rd - Dorian G.

The 7th and 8th grade bands put on a wonderful show this evening! Great job WMS musicians!

WMS had 4 students selected to the NSBA 8th Gr. All-State Concert Band/Jazz Band. They will participate in these honor bands on Sat, 1/10 at Kearney HS.   Concert Band: Jackson R. - Alt. Tuba Jazz Band: Owen E. - 1st Alto Sax Jack R. - 4th Trombone Olivia J. - Alt. Trumpet

Congratulations to our WMS Girls Volleyball team for finishing second in the Conference Silver Bracket Championship! Way to work hard and represent Westside!!

To celebrate "soaring into a new year", 8B homeroom students participated in a paper airplane challenge for our "Fun Friday" activity. Congratulations to our winner, Jamison C. from Ms. Haley's homeroom.

8th grade scientists completed the "Choice Lab". They could choose from Splat, Soft Landing, or Heart Rate labs. They designed and carried out their investigation using the Scientific Method.

Tuning up for the 7th grade orchestra Pops & Popsicles Concert..

WMS Girls Track Team had their last practice before the Conference Meet. Girls team did an anything-but-a baton relays and kickball game against the boys team. Good Luck to both the Girls and Boys WMS track team at the Conference Meet on Friday, May 9th!

Congrats to WMS students Isabella H., Clarissa K., Audrey M., and Naima R. who were selected to the 2025 Blair Middle School Honor Band that was heldon Saturday, March 29th.  Guest conductores were both highly accomplished composers Robert Sheldon and Chris Bernotas.
