All the men who enabled him, who acted as his "pr adviser" who saw him as hot property, who protected him, who played with him, who enabled him, who saw nothing wrong in playing with a bloke like him You are the definition of rape culture That's it. That's exactly what it is

3 women have been killed in Ballarat this year, but the media coverage keeps forgetting one of them. Her name was Rebecca Young. She was murdered by her ex in front of her kids. Why is she forgotten? Are we still playing respectability politics with women’s deaths? @GuardianAus

Deeply concerned to see this piece, like so many others, ‘forget’ the murder of Rebecca Young last month.

BRB just picking my kids up from the colonial institutions I’m forced to send them to all day so they can be “educated” by the society that brought us climate change and racism.

@AdriaCarmichael Well, my fantasy book has some f words! It's first person, she's a sellsword, & she's having a *very* bad day. Attacked by brigands, survives but accidentally hatches a dragon, & then encounters her hated ex while trying to work out what to do about the dragon. I think fuck fits!

@crikey_news Here's the shitty part: "the notion of public space ceasing to be a neutral one where the continent behaviour of the citizen is assumed, and immoral or criminal behaviour is the exception," bears no resemblance to public space as experienced by any minority - hence the signs.

Bakers Delight is planning to display sexual harassment warnings in its stores. As Guy Rundle sees it, this is all part of a trend towards self-surveillance that weakens our capacity for autonomy. crikey.com.au/2022/08/12/bak…

1/3 Just regarding the story in the Daily Tele about a form that was part of a pilot program launched in 3 hospitals under the previous Coalition Government.

@billshortenmp Epic fail, Bill. I say this as a mother with a partner who wound up significantly disadvantaged because hospital policy couldn't grok two women having a child. So you're entrenching homophobia and transphobia, both at once. Hint: if Deves thinks it's good, you've gone wrong.

3/3 They will be replaced with new forms that use the word mother, not birthing parent, which is consistent with other Medicare forms.

I am honestly stunned on the eve of an election the government has announced a budget CUT in real terms to Aboriginal legal services and Aboriginal family violence prevention and legal services. So much for promises to close the gap and to do things differently #Budget2022

@alfredthegrater @UnaMcIlvenna @UniMelb Yes, I discovered after I left that I was the reason many of my students went on to do further study. The commitment of sessional teachers is extraordinary and often life-changing for their students, and utterly obscured by the institution.

@UnaMcIlvenna @UniMelb I had you for Black Death to New Worlds last year and you were fantastic, I'm really sorry to hear this. For what it's worth, your subject is one of the reasons I'm now doing a history major. Best of luck wherever you go from here.

Today marks my last day of my 5 year contract at @unimelb. The uni created a permanent position around my teaching and research, but then gave it to someone else. So I’m leaving academia. 🧵
