School has spent years and countless resources trying to teach kids what this guy managed to teach them in one afternoon. For years, my kids’ school has been trying to teach them about democracy, elections, journalism, accountability, and responsibility, with little to no success. And then comes this YouTuber, using a tool they already know and love, telling one of the best stories I’ve heard in a long time, and in one afternoon, my kids were able to experience and deeply understand what is: Democracy. Elections. Capitalism. Totalitarianism. Propaganda. Cults. Journalism. Fake news. Corruption. Betrayal. Leadership. Justice. Accountability. Responsibility. And many many more. How? Because when you choose the right medium and combine it with the power of a well-built story, you can teach almost anything. But with textbooks, dry explanations, and (if they’re lucky) hollow examples, even adults struggle to stay focused.
