Music x Tech , IMS Dubai. We spoke about web3, RWA’s, and tokenization (got abit heated) There are still real builders in blockchain and many felt web3 is in the best place it’s ever been. UAE is in an interesting intersection with many tech and music companies connecting 👀

@badapple @ednewtonrex No one disagrees with the potential benefits of Ai. OP’s posts have largely been specifically about unlicensed music as training data for gen AI.

For some it's nothing to do with the money and more that it advances humanity. AI will discover many things in healthcare in the future. Not only that humans learn from looking at other people's things and taking inspiration to; idc what a person's strawman is, AI is doing the same. We have to physically look at something, AI has to have it embedded in its brain more or less. Not different at all and AI will keep improving and let people who are unable to show their vision for one reason or another get it out there.

Keep calling out people who work in generative AI - speaking from experience, it actually works. My friend's mum was, I suppose, a very early AI hater. In 2012, I sat next to her at dinner and told her I was working on AI music. She was direct: "I hope you fail." I had a few more conversations like this while I ran an AI music company. People who said what they actually thought - that perhaps AI music wasn't as great for the world as I thought it would be. It took a long time, but it changed my views. Every person who speaks their mind is another crack in the armour. When you work in AI, you live in a bubble. I was at Stability when we were sued by a group of artists, and I virtually didn't notice. Calling people out is a chance to penetrate that bubble. The self-congratulatory world of AI has doubled down on sharing their 'wild' model releases on Twitter - so call them out when they do. For the exploitation behind the models, for polluting the world with slop, for pursuing an agenda that is totally at odds with public opinion. They won't reply - but they will read it. And that will make a difference, however small. Don't be aggressive - just give them your honest opinion of what they're doing. There was a view a few years ago in AI that people would come round to this technology, that any unpopularity would fade. Clearly, that's not what's happened. They need to see this. You won't change many minds - the money in AI is too good, and lots of them genuinely do believe that what they're doing is so important that they can ignore the haters, however many there are. But there are some who are less greedy and more reasonable. I genuinely believe these people can be reached - and the way to reach them is to make it clear how you, and so many other people, feel about what they're doing.

@zoverions @ednewtonrex Friend, reading your comments I think it’s clear we’re all conflating the many uses and access to Ai. It’s a big word, I see you’re fighting for open source which I fw. What I don’t fw is the extraction of value in order to train gen Ai which then competes in market.

You are mistaking conviction for ignorance. We don't live in a bubble. We see the anger. We read the critiques. We just fundamentally disagree with the premise that democratizing creativity is "exploitation." Your friend's mom saying "I hope you fail" wasn't a brave truth-teller; she was hoping for the preservation of a world where music making was reserved for the privileged few with training. We hear you. We just think you are wrong about where the value of art lies. We aren't ignoring the haters; we are building for the people you want to keep out.

@HighTropics @ednewtonrex I think his point is to counter this notion that there’s no hope. He’s literally speaking from someone who switched from the inside. So he’s proof. It’s hand to hand , not mass

@ednewtonrex I’m not optimistic that we can even make a dent in what is coming. There are so many things that need to happen to restore any semblance of hope for creatives, but it starts with us. So thank you for fighting the good fight.

We recorded the song a year ago, I was going through real pain then so having something this creative come out of it is exactly what the power of music is.
