Don't waste time on some pre-algebra. There are basically 4 mathematical theories that start from complete zero (except some set theory on the level "what is a set, product of two sets and function"): analysis, linear algebra, abstract algebra and topology. Any introductory textbook should introduce you to them from complete zero and their main plots do not intersect for actually long time, so you can start with each of these. At the beginning, I'd summerise them as follows Analysis: its about real functions, sequences and series. Probably the hardest among all 4 in terms of problems, proofs having a lot of epsilons, easy to understand theorems but with hard computations. I'd definitely strongly suggest to read with understanding the first part about sequences Linear algebra: without being at tom 2 of analysis where you can actually use it, it will be probably boring and useless, but you need the first definition in every textbook of a vector space, you'll find them everywhere Abstract algebra: theorems with not that much technical details, but its concepts may be less straight-forward as in the rest. I'd say that this should be the most satisfying experience to someone new, although its usually the second year. At undergrad level it has nothing to do with linear algebra, but usually is a clkass on second year so some autor may refer to it as an example or explaination. Just choose a different book then. Topology: Its about continous maps defined between weird shapes. It has a lot of technical details, but concepts should be rather straightforward and you don't compute anything there. Its something between analysis and set theory until you get to counting holes, when you can choose your fraction to be way more algedbraicm, and this is the topology "from memes", i.e. homotopy theory makes you identify cup with doghnut

It is a trap :-). I spent over 7000 Euro a few years ago and covered a part of the floor of my living room with math book piles (fascinated by their topics and running out of shelve space), but am still stuck with the "Big_Fat_Notebook" on PreAlgebra and Algebra... I just have no discipline... .@martinmrmar

Ich verstehe wirklich nicht, wie man als Deutscher absoluter Pazifist sein kann. Wir wissen doch, dass der Nationalsozialismus spätestens ab 39 (wahrscheinlich früher) nur noch durch Waffen gestoppt werden konnte.Wie kann man da absoluten, also ausnahmslosen Pazifismus vertreten?
