The landlord lobby claim rent controls never work, but that isn't true. We could point to rent controlled Vienna, the world's most liveable city, or the 16 other rent controlled European countries with better housing than us. But we don't need to. They worked here in the UK! 🧵

Because when you leave housing to the market, it becomes a financial tool for the wealthy. If we want to end the housing crisis, rent control has to be a key part of that. We’ve done it before, and we can do it again.

When Thatcher scrapped rent controls in '88, housebuilding collapsed and housing costs went through the roof. Rent control alone wont solve the housing crisis, but it’s a part of the only system that works. A system where we treat houses as homes not investments.

Just overwhelmingly pathetic. You fill our rivers and seas with sewage, hike up bills, and let infrastructure deteriorate, all while paying out millions to shareholders. Then hire a bodyguard because people actually voice their opposition to this. Embarrassing.

Today is also the day that Lawrence Gosden CEO of Southern Water revealed that he has hired a bodyguard after been surrounded by 6 middle-aged ladies all holding hands will conducting a citizen's arrest. No I'm not kidding.

🚫🪪 Good riddance to the Government's mandatory digital ID scheme! Not only was this an attack on our civil liberties, putting more power in the hands of this (and future) Governments at the same time as increasing state surveillance and a clampdown on the right to protest, it would also see even more money, power and our most personal data in the hands of the private tech corporations.

Reform claim to be a break from the establishment, but they’re largely funded by ex-Tory donors. Most sitting Reform councillors/MPs have jumped ship from the Tories. They’re rats leaving a sinking ship. These are the same people who have sold our country down the river.
