P&Q caught up early this year with Sharon Armstrong at the Ontario Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (@_OSSGA) Operations, Health & Safety Seminar in Toronto. Armstrong has been involved with the organization for more than a decade, having served as vice president of industry and stakeholder relations from 2015 to 2025. Armstrong took over late last year as OSSGA executive director. Read our full Q&A here. 👇 (Photo: OSSGA) #safety #AggregateIndustry heyor.ca/dnq6hx

Many aggregate reserves supplying the GTA were developed decades ago. @_OSSGA lets us know that more than two thirds of these reserves are over 35 years old! As reserves mature, planning for replacement supply becomes critical. We all must support continuity by planning supply transitions well in advance. Early action helps avoid gaps that could slow future projects. 🏗️ #OSSGA #SupplyPlanning #FutureBuilds #Infrastructure #PlanningForTheFuture

🪨 Aggregate is a key driver of Ontario’s economy, supporting jobs and contributing to the province’s GDP. However, it's biggest impact is as the first link in the wider construction and materials supply chain. As the foundation of the broader construction sector, it is crucial to supporting hundreds of thousands of jobs and tens of billions of dollars in economic activity in Ontario. 🔗 Learn more at gravelfacts.ca

Some construction materials take over a decade to approve before they are used. OSSGA reports that approvals for new aggregate sites can take up to 12 years from start to finish! 📄 These timelines mean supply decisions must be made long before demand peaks. Early planning helps reduce future bottlenecks and project delays. @_OSSGA 🧭 #OSSGA #InfrastructurePlanning #PublicWorks #ONPoli #CBM

A working aquaculture system helped bring this lake to life. 🐟 McMillan Farm in Puslinch began rehabilitation in 2002 and now includes a 65 acre lake within a nearly 100 acre restored property. 🌊 A floating raceway operated by Izumi Aquaculture reintroduced nutrients into water that was once too low in biological activity to support much life. ♻️ Today, birds, amphibians, turtles, plants, and native species are tracked through ecological surveys as biodiversity indicators. 🦆Swipe to see how aquaculture helped restart the ecosystem. 👆@IncIzumi #Ontario #Biodiversity #LandRehabilitation #CBM #Puslinch

A single school requires thousands of tonnes of material before any walls go up. 🏫 GravelFacts.ca explains that an average school requires roughly 13,000 tonnes of aggregate to support foundations, concrete, and site infrastructure. 🧱That material is engineered to carry structural loads, manage drainage, and provide long term stability under constant use. 🏗️ Decisions made at the foundation stage affect maintenance, durability, and performance. Supplying consistent, high quality aggregate is how we support long-lasting community infrastructure. What is the nearest school to you? Let us know in the comments below. 🌱 #CBM #Community #Education #OSSGA #Schools @_OSSGA
