my 3yo does this great bit where he will drop an overly-adult phrase in conversation with a stranger in public. today’s was, explaining his reaction to firecrackers during a lunar new year dragon dance to an older chinese woman, “—and i dissolved into *peals* of laughter”

Here’s the thing most people don’t realize: future you is watching. Not literally. But in your mind, they exist and they’re observing. And every time you choose the easy path, the comfortable path, the path that doesn’t serve them, they notice. You’re breaking the commitment. You’re saying “You’re not worth it. I don’t believe in you enough.” And that erodes trust, with yourself. But every time you choose the hard path, the uncomfortable path, the path that serves them, they notice too. That’s what discipline actually is: self-trust through action.
