[🟢] NEW: “All our information, despite reports to the contrary, is that Liverpool are sticking with Arne Slot. There’s no thought to changing coach. They are planning with him and their priority is to give him the profile of squad to succeed. “If you look at the range of factors on and off the pitch, it’s remarkable. I’m not surprised that Liverpool want to give him longer… he will be the massive part of their recruitment planning too.” [@David_Ornstein on the Athletic Podcast]

Been watching LOTS of Liverpool in prep for a larger piece on if their issues are mainly tactical, and I still don't really understand why Arne Slot is persisting with this +1 in defence if he's still trying to coach a high press - you can't be half pregnant and all that... Now, I do think SOME of the blame goes on the recruitment, injuries & squad makeup they've had this season. But it's stuff like the example below that continues game after game with no real solutions being found. -- Liverpool in a 4-4-2 diamond pressing shape with a +1 [3v2] against Brighton's two CFs -- More zonal approach; see Frimpong's positioning for reference, very 'in-between' roles -- Lack of 'train' through the centre leaves Szob to tuck inside on Brighton's LCM -- Basic ball clipped over Szob's head to Kadioglu + Liverpool retreat [maintain +1 in backline]. -- Kadioglu runs from his own third to Liverpool's box unchallenged + gets a decent shot on target Now EVERY situation isn't like this one but a lot of them are. If you are to high press like this, I don't see how the +1 helps. People say M2M all over the park is risky, but this, is equally or if anything, riskier than being M2M. Maybe the squad isn't built for pressing high, but it's also not built for defending low, for breaking low blocks or transitioning through teams on the break. It's a mess right now, from the outside looking in.

[🟢] NEW: Liverpool have sounded out the camps of potential replacements for Mohamed Salah in recent weeks, it is understood. Given the uncertain futures of many key men, it is set to be a summer of change on and off the pitch. It remains to be seen whether the club give boss Slot their long-term backing, while key defender Ibrahima Konate is out of contract in the summer with Real Madrid still pondering whether to pounce or not. Vice-captain Andy Robertson looks set to depart this summer. Several fringe players may also push to leave, such as Federico Chiesa, Joe Gomez and Curtis Jones, while Alisson and Virgil van Dijk will soon go into their last contracted season with the club. [🟢] BREAKING: Arne Slot stands on the verge of the sack at Liverpool, with Xabi Alonso waiting in the wings to replace him. Liverpool’s 10th league defeat of the season, a loss to Brighton at the weekend, has sealed Slot’s fate at Anfield. He will leave in the summer, and Liverpool have avoided an immediate dismissal only because their Champions League rivals have also dropped points.
