Is Britain ready to cope with data centres❓
Our ED @ginasue was on @BBCr4today this morning talking about the environmental cost of data centres, US investment in the UK, and @nvidia's comments on natural gas and computing.

What would you draw if asked to imagine an economy that works for everyone?
@donmacca tested this with 10K+ people worldwide, who consistently drew:
⭕️ Circles
♾ Infinity symbols
🌀 Spirals
❤️ Hearts

"The climate crisis is not, in fact, a mystery or a riddle we haven’t yet solved due to insufficiently robust data sets. We know what it would take, but it’s not a quick fix – it’s a paradigm shift." @NaomiAKlein

@Michael_Kwet And As Michael's book takes pains to add, today we can add ecocide to the list.

Martin Luther King, Jr's words in @Michael_Kwet's Digital Degrowth:
“When machines & computers, profit motives & property rights, are considered more important than people, the giant triplets of racism, extreme materialism, and militarism are incapable of being conquered.”

@DarioKrps11 @LSE_PBS @KateRaworth The problem isn't convincing business professionals that a new paradigm is needed.
The conviction already exists.
It's helping them realise they're not alone.
English

The biggest barrier to sustainable, post-growth business isn't resistance.
It's that professionals assume their views are divisive when they're actually part of the 86% majority.
Here's what my research collaboration with @DarioKrps11, Fred Basso and @LSE_PBS reveals:

Carbon capture wasn’t invented to fight climate change.
It was built by Big Oil... to get more oil from dying wells. 🛢️
Not a climate solution. A fossil fuel booster.

@thejustinwelsh The #DiewithZero 📕 recommends just that, frontloading experiences in your younger 'golden years' as you'll get more value from money in your prime.
@adamcoelho's podcast also has some great episodes on balancing FIRE with intentional living, it doesn't have to be either/or
English

I'm convinced the FIRE movement is a gimmick.
It operates under the assumption that life should be lived in 2 distinct buckets:
1. Accumulation: Work hard and pinch pennies.
2. Enjoyment (sort of): 'Retire' and live a frugal life.
To me, that's backward.
Continually delaying gratification is the worst thing you can do with your money.
You'd be better off finding something you love doing where there is potential to make a lot of money.
Get a job with upside where you can advance forward and perform like hell or (better yet) start something of your own that you're excited to pursue.
Save and invest some. And spend your money while you're young, healthy, fit, and energetic.
Choose either route and do it well for a long time.
You'll make a lot of money and you won't have to eat grocery-store ramen and yogurt for the back half of your life.

Thread on the potential impact of the @TheGreenParty gains this week. Especially in @leamgreens.
Back in 2019, Warwick District Council declared a climate emergency and then made a bold cross-party proposal - to increase the council tax of the wealthiest by £1 / week. 1/7
