@Serialkiller638 @Midwest_expat @mnolangray A skilled trade is a great path for those with just a high school degree. But we need to remember that a large part of manual labor is not the skilled trades. Our agricultural output depends on immigrants picking and sorting that really only immigrants are willing to do.

@dyebewtschlagen @Midwest_expat @mnolangray The National Academy of Sciences has robust literature on this I would recommend checking out. And who said anything about race or being white? And for the record I’m Irish with an Irish last name lmao.

@choculatopguy @Midwest_expat @mnolangray So we need to remember the difference between anecdote and data. And even more so these are the skilled trades not general and agricultural labor which is the bulk of immigrant labor.

@Midwest_expat @mnolangray The data is pretty clear about this. Unless you’re a high school dropout you’re more qualified than immigrants. The type of work you’re likely referencing is the skilled trades more than it is agricultural or general labor. The NAS is a good resources I’d check out.

@_middle_danger @mnolangray “Just having a high school degree makes you more productive than almost anywhere other than manual labor” This is just categorically false, the trades and manual labor are some of the best options for those with only a high school degree

@Midwest_expat @mnolangray I work in the trades and perform manual labor. The reality is that native born Americans don’t work these jobs. Just having a high school degree makes you more productive than almost anywhere other than manual labor. It’s why the majority of this work is done by immigrants.

@mnolangray Peel back one layer, and the progressive contempt for the working class exposes itself every time. They can’t imagine a life hanging drywall, and even the thought of it is something they consider a punishment for their worst enemies

spending 3 weeks on the northeast corridor has really solidified for me how much of an outlier chicago is in the us. you’ve got this one row of high-density pre-car cities with high transit usage (for the us), one midwest city built like that 720mi away, and nothing else similar

@litteralyme0 Let’s be serious. How about we separate it correctly… 0-17 is kid time 18-78 is adult time Middle age is 48 This generations concern with getting older and having to work for things is mind numbing

The average lifespan is 77. Middle age isn't 50, it's 38.

@JoshJunker2 One of the best downtowns in the country. Just spent the weekend there and got to see the weather channel broadcasting from the banks. Was a wild experience.

@_middle_danger Travel doesn’t make you better than anyone but I’m not arguing with some random who thinks Myrtle Beach is a destination. Get a bigger perspective.

@_middle_danger @Jennabenna24 white liberal women are literally the cancer thats KILLING America. they are very condescending and are obviously bored because they always attach themselves to some weird cause. its actually pretty troubling..

It’s hard to argue about the world with people whose idea of culture is going to Cozumel in Lakewood.

@Jennabenna24 Comments like these me remind of when a lady wrote an Olive Garden review for Google and gave it good marks only for people rag on her for liking Olive Garden. Anthony Bourdain stepped in to defend her and shoot down the snobs.
