This 1957 footage captures the farce of apartheid criminals patting themselves on the back for building “matchbox” houses in Mamelodi township for the natives and playing the benevolent regime.
They claimed that theirs was not oppression of the native but the pursuit of good neighbourliness through separate development.
The DA pulls the same tired stunt today. They try to dodge racism charges by doling out crumbs to natives in townships. “Look! We built them RDP homes,” while resisting transformation and economic empowerment of the native.
It’s the same old script of keeping the natives comfortable in their squalor, with no meaningful development and social progress, yet expected to be forever grateful for the scraps.
