For the longest time, I couldn’t figure out why the f he keeps saying this, because it’s so obviously disingenuous. Then it occurred to me: because it’s a threat to his $SOL bags. If Coinbase had chosen to build on Solana he would be shilling it endlessly (like when FTX did) but since they chose Ethereum it’s a threat. Base, among the many other L2s, is a credible path to scaling Ethereum. In many ways the competition between Solana and Ethereum is the classic closed vs open platform battle. Apple vs Microsoft, iOS vs Android, Amazon vs Shopify. Both have merit and I don’t have anything against Solana, I think it’s a great ecosystem. Generally speaking the closed ecosystem is better for value extraction - a better business - but the open ecosystem tends to get more scale.
