@CaralhoPhilly You are the genocidal ghoul. Next you'll tell me the Bolsheviks didn't end up majority antisemitic. What other recycled Soviet era agitprop will you vomit out? You don't even know your own bigoted communist tradition you arrogant western "intellectual".

@aaronedelson Yes Israel is genocidal, that's what happens when you foster a country of blood and soil fascists into a permanent feedback loop of zero consequences and they constantly meddle in USA to make life worse for all of us.

@1XSv60aVmYewljm @RabbiPoupko Maybe you are right, the bigger point of ridiculing the justification of violence is important. Too many western/American idiots justify violence done in the name of Israel hate. The double standard they have wheb it comes to justice is sickening.

@aaronedelson @RabbiPoupko Of course the rabbi isn't justifying the violence! What would make you think that?! The point was that the rabbi said this mitigation was not done by ANYONE (read the OP). In this, he took his point too far, as there were Jews who tried to explain that Goldstein was traumatised.

Rabbi Poupko
Rabbi Poupko@RabbiPoupko·
The young man on the left is 19-year-old Shalom Lapid. On the right is Mordechai Lapid, a world famous Jewish refusenik who defeated the Soviet Union and risked his life to leave Russia and come to Israel so he can live as a Jew. On December 6th 1993 a Palestinian car drove by them and sprayed the family car with bullets. The father Mordechai and his son Shalom died from their wounds, and three other children were injured. The doctor that arrived on the scene was it close friend of the family; his name was doctor Baruch Goldstein. After his friend died in his hands, many said Goldstein was deeply traumatized by this event. Thres months later, on February 25th 1995 Goldstein would carry out the most heinous terrorist attack ever carried out by a Jew. He would shoot Muslim worshipers while they were praying in a mosque in Hebron killing 25 Muslim worshipers and injuring over 100. Goldstein was very rightfully condemned by every single Jewish organization, rabbi, and the Israeli government. At no point did ANYONE say that "Goldstein had close family friends who died in his hands after being murdered by Palestinians". Why? Because there is never an excuse for terrorism. Seeing so many media outlets whitewash the heinous attack on Temple Israel in Michigan is appalling and a direct continuation of what they have done to legitimize the horrors of October 7th carried out against the Jewish state of Israel.

@1XSv60aVmYewljm @RabbiPoupko I don't see the rabbi here justifying Goldstein's violence, with descriptions of his legitimate grievance. Rather, he seems to be holding that grievance justification up to ridicule.

@aaronedelson @RabbiPoupko We agree on the condemnation of violence towards Jews and not accepting the mitigation of the grievous nature of these attacks by citing the actions of the State of Israel. The rabbi's argument juxtaposing this mitigation with the lack there of in the Goldsteen case was mistaken.

@1XSv60aVmYewljm @RabbiPoupko Targeting jews in america because you feel something about israel has to be condemned universally. Americans are justifying violence, citing a grievance with Israel. That doesn't justify killing Jewish people in a synagogue anywhere, in revenge. Rabbi's main point is valid.

@aaronedelson @RabbiPoupko Aaron, I'm a zionist Israeli who grew up in the 80s and 90s. I remember this. Not every opinion you don't like is a bot. My rabbi in high school referred to Goldstein as "hashem yeekom damo" - הדם ייקום דמו, may God avenge his blood. History is messy.

@1XSv60aVmYewljm @RabbiPoupko I also share your horror at cave of patriarchs, and that some even supported that crime. That isn't up for debate. Its the shock yiu and j feel when people justify such actions. It isnt right, no matter how emotionally compromised either man was.

@aaronedelson @RabbiPoupko A. The NYT had a terrible take. B. The rabbi was mistaken that none in Israel did the same with Goldstein, though it wasn't the papers or any prominant citizen.

@RabbiPoupko Sadly, rabbi, you are mistaken in this matter. I was a teenager in Israel at the time and some, though not many, did exactly that. Having said that, two wrongs do not make a right. It was wrong then and it is wrong now.

@KillianFor30537 @RabbiPoupko But that doesn't make it right. Nor is it correct to attack Jewish people in Michigan, because of something that happened in Lebanon.

@RabbiPoupko I've heard that story of the trauma that Goldstein was going through dozens of times, it was used as a justification

@RabbiPoupko Ummmm I don’t think bringing up Goldstein is such a good idea. His grave became a shrine, it had to be bulldozed. Extremists still celebrate him. Ben-Gvir had a portrait of him. Just … No

An Islamist gunman shot up a hannukah event in my hometown 3 months ago. He murdered 16 people, including a 10 year old. I’ve NEVER felt compelled to avenge their deaths by harming innocent Muslims because I’m fucking normal. This is the racism of low expectations.
Ryan Grim@ryangrim

NEWS: The man who rammed his explosives-laden truck into a Michigan synagogue today was named Ayman Ghazaleh, according to a source familiar with the situation. Ghazaleh posted photos overnight of his family members, including young children, who were killed in a recent Israeli attack on the town of Mashghara, Lebanon. This is a developing story.

I was a standard lib. I have Jewish heritage. I qualify for an Israeli passport. I was ignorant. I thought Israel and Gaza were equal adversaries engaged in a limited conflict, and it was bad on both sides. Now I’m over it. Disband the whole thing. It’s Palestine. All of it.
