@Catholic_bro @o_swineherd You literally changed the subject and won't answer the question lol. I'm a Reformed Protestant. I believe Christ gave the church authority but churches can also go apostate when they abandon scriptures. But all good brother. Have a good Easter weekend ✌️

You’re mixing categories. Scripture condemns calling foods evil or binding people as if those foods are inherently sinful (1 Tim 4). The Church doesn’t teach that at all. Citing Zwingli to reject Church discipline is a bit ironic Which begs the question-Who has the authority Christ gave?

@Catholic_bro @o_swineherd "Require abstinence" still applies because according to your church, if I meat today, I am sinning. That goes against scripture. Like Zwingli said: “if you will fast, do so; if you do not wish to eat meat, eat it not; but leave Christians a free choice in the matter.”

@aaronrunning_ @o_swineherd is about people who forbid foods as if they’re evil or unclean. That’s not what this is. Catholics don’t teach meat is bad we just freely abstain on certain days as a form of discipline to grow closer to Christ

@Catholic_bro So are you saying the official teaching of the Roman Catholic church does not forbid you from eating meat today?

I’m not forcing anyone to do anything. But Christians have always practiced disciplines not explicitly listed in Scripture. The Bible doesn’t claim to list every possible practice, it gives principles. Voluntarily giving something up to grow closer to Christ doesn’t contradict that.

@Catholic_bro Is your original post telling others to abstain from meat today? I know this is commanded by the Roman Catholic church. If there's no command in scripture, then you can't impose this on others. This is what Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for.

@Catholic_bro If you're going to fast, from meat or food in general, great, but there's no command in scripture to abstain from meat today.

@PerfInjust Yes, everyone is made in the image of God. Yes, everyone has the law of God written on their hearts. Yes, everyone has broken the law. But some sins are worse than others. This can be seen in the Westminster Larger Catechism, Q&A 150 and 151.

Reformed theologian Franciscus Junius said that the natural law “has not been equally perceived by all in every age.” Girolama Zanchi, wrote that “we see among different peoples that some are wiser, more devoted to justice and honesty and more zealous for God” and “Even if natural law is inscribed on everyone’s heart, still God usually inscribes it according to his own desire unequally; in some more deeply and profoundly, in other less deeply and profoundly” and “natural law has not been written in every person’s heart equally, but more in some and less in others.” Jurist Matthew Hale writes that “many people and nations have been overgrown with evil customs and barbarism, that they have imbued their very human nature to a degree not much superior to beasts….[they have] degraded themselves of the actual dignity of human nature.” Althusius: “although those principles of nature are one and the same to all nations, still they differ in the level and means of their inscribing and urging. In fact, these principles are not equally inscribed on the hearts of all.”

We know OPC minister Edmund Clowney was a big influence on Tim Keller. And sure enough, Clowney in 1995 argued (wrongly) that 1 Timothy 3 allows for female deacons.

Protestants: “Ew! Y'all claim to eat the Body of Christ! That's cannibalism! Not biblical!” Catholics: “Cannibalism is eating a dead human. Jesus Christ is now alive! Resurrected! This is why Jesus taught: Amen, amen, I say unto you: except you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you shall not have life in you. (Jn 6:54) If you want His resurrected life, you must eat His Eucharistic Body. He said so.
