The oldest maximum temperature date record on record (based on @TorroUK records) has been exceeded this afternoon provisionally, with 24.2°C at Mona on the Isle of Anglesey in Wales. The previous record was 23.6°C set at Oxford in 1859 - 167 YEARS AGO!

2025 delivered the warmest 1st-6th November in the 254-year Hadley mean CET series, knocking 1996 down to 2nd. For 1st-7th, the record highest is nearly 0.5°C lower. Today is extremely mild again for the CET region. So we can expect that record to be well beaten by 2025.

Hurricane Melissa is a record breaker. 210kt gust recorded above the surface setting a new world record, previous was 209kts by Typhoon Megi (2010) The eye is now down to -5.21 making it the driest eye in Atlantic basin history, the world record is -5.00. What a beast.

The new cone from the NHC paints a terribly grim picture. It calls for Melissa to make landfall in Jamaica with winds of 155 MPH and potential gusts up to 190 MPH. And that’s if she only peaks as a low-end CAT 5. Right now, the storm has leveled off, but this actually isn’t good news. Jamaica radar indicates that Melissa is possibly about to undergo an eyewall replacement cycle or merger, which explains why the Hurricane’s pressure has risen a bit (953 mbar) despite an absolutely monstrous appearance on satellite. The problem, however, is that Melissa is still only moving at 3 mph and will have plenty of time to complete the cycle/merger; and given the favorability of the environment, it could wrap up smoothly. What’s worse, the core wind field may grow larger in size during the process. At this time, models and the NHC unfortunately remain locked on the worst case scenario prospect of Hurricane Melissa reaching Category 5 intensity.
