🚨JUST IN: The likelihood of Arsenal star Riccardo Calafiori returning to Italy is increasing, in a move that could have major implications for rivals Liverpool. The chances of Riccardo Calafiori returning to Italy are growing, with reports also suggesting Barcelona are set to beat Liverpool in the race for an €80 million deal. Calafiori impressed during the 2023–24 campaign, playing a key role in helping Bologna qualify for the Champions League for the first time since 1965. The versatile defender, capable of operating at centre-back or left-back, also caught the eye at Euro 2024 before Italy’s round-of-16 exit to Switzerland. According to Italian outlet L’Interista, Inter are ready to ‘swoop’ with a concrete €50 million bid this summer. Calafiori is reportedly Inter’s ‘main target’ to strengthen their defence, with claims there will be ‘no obstacles from London’ to complete the deal. The report adds that Calafiori could operate on the left side of a back three or as a left-back in a four-man defence. The latter is described as a ‘real dream’ for Inter boss Cristian Chivu, as it would allow the in-form Federico Dimarco to push further forward as a left winger. Interestingly, the report claims Inter plan to use funds from a potential Alessandro Bastoni sale to finance a move for Calafiori.
