In my day, if you were the attacking force, you planned for 3-to-1 losses — three attackers for every one defender. Today, with drones reshaping the battlefield, Russia can probably expect something closer to 10-to-1. And most of those losses don’t even happen in the trenches, they happen at form-up points, on start lines, and in the rear, long before anyone sees an enemy position. That’s the reality on the ground.

This administration is not just corrupt to the core, it’s breaking the law constantly and with impunity.
Reuters@Reuters

A @Reuters review found that since October, hundreds of judges have ruled more than 4,400 times that the Trump administration is detaining immigrants unlawfully — yet people have remained jailed even after courts ruled the policy was illegal reut.rs/4qHNKDN

At Munich, Volodymyr Zelensky tore away the illusions and said out loud what everyone dealing in reality already knows: this isn’t a normal ruler, and this isn’t a normal war. ‘Putin doesn’t live like ordinary people. He can’t imagine life without power, or after it. The everyday concerns of real societies don’t interest him. His reference points aren’t living advisers or the world as it is today, but dead emperors and faded maps. He consults Tsar Peter and Empress Catherine more than he consults anyone who understands modern life. He may see himself as a tsar, but in truth he’s a slave to war, trapped by it, defined by it, unable to exist without it.’ And here’s the real danger: what if he’s still there in ten years? It’s entirely possible. Time is all he needs to regroup, rebuild, and try again. So as I say, when America talks about “peace,” let’s be honest about what that means in practice: pressure on the victim, not the aggressor. Because Putin hasn’t changed. His worldview hasn’t changed, and his ambitions haven’t changed. Only the cost paid by Ukraine, keeps going up. 🇺🇦

In light of President Trump’s recent statement that Russia wants to make a deal and that Ukraine will have to move, I want to give you an update on the current state of affairs for Russia. 1. Severe infantry shortages. Over the last couple of months, Russia has struggled to carry out any meaningful or tactically significant assault operations. A key problem is the low quality of recruits, which results in understaffed assault units. 2. Last year’s tactical successes around Pokrovsk and Hulyaipole were achieved largely because of severe fog, which exposed a number of weaknesses in Ukrainian defensive tactics that have since been mostly addressed. 3. Ukraine is currently conducting several successful counterattack operations in the south and rolling back Russian gains. 4. The Russian troop strategy is “complete the task and die,” according to a friend who is fighting. It is a borrowed-time strategy, and that time is running out. In summary, Russia is bashing its head against the wall of Ukrainian defenses, and moving to appease Russia makes zero sense now. Video is for illustration purposes on Zapo axis.

Zelensky's right, by the way -- Putin is kinda 73 years old. He doesn't have another 5 or 10 years to stop the war, leave Ukraine alone in stable peace, rearm his military, repair his economy, and attack Ukraine again in better shape when another opportunity comes. Especially given the fact that Ukraine, in this post-war period, will also not be sitting idle. If the psychotic maniac wants to see his lifetime dream come true and exterminate and erase Ukraine, he needs to get it done now or in the foreseeable future. If he stops now, he'll never get Ukraine. At all. Which is one of many reasons why he's not stopping the war and that any "peace deal" exists nowhere but Donald Trump's imagination -- right next to craving for his sweet "business opportunities" with the Kremlin.

Exclusive: Russia sustained around 9,000 more battlefield losses than it was able to replace in January, according to assessments from Western officials. The development signals Ukraine’s new strategy of killing more Russian soldiers than the Kremlin can replenish via recruitment is having some success. Russian forces were unable to achieve any significant gains on the ground in January even as they took these very heavy losses, the officials said. About 35,000 Russians were KIA in December, roughly equal to Moscow’s monthly recruitment, Bloomberg previously reported. But in January Russian losses exceeded recruitment. While the situation is difficult for Ukraine, especially for civilians without heating, Russia is taking incredibly high losses for no reward. At the current rate it will still take Russia two years to fully take Donetsk Oblast, according to the assessments. It raises further questions for Putin’s ability to make a breakthrough on the ground, despite the Russian narrative - at times echoed by Trump - that its victory is inevitable. It suggests Ukraine still has leverage in negotiations. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

@TerryWatkinsJr1 @Modern_Mechanic It is indeed good news, but I want everyone to measure their expectations because a lot of this territory was lightly held. But with the problems developing in russia's command and control systems, things will certainly improve.

A few months ago Russians had their commanders sitting in the rear watching drone feeds in real time. With commanders from many battalions across multiple brigades and maybe even divisions all in a room together collaborating. Planning Iskander strikes, airstrikes, etc. Now discord is banned so sharing the video feeds is really hard. Now starlink is gone so having internet near the front is difficult/impossible Now telegram is gone, so side chats, relationships, archived communications, etc are all gone Russian kill chain will go from 1-2 minutes to 20 minutes or 100+ minutes

While Ukrainian athlete who honor his fallen teammates face ban, Russian lugers Pavel Repilov and Daria Olesik were allowed to compete under a “neutral” flag after openly promoting a company that co-produces the very drones killing Ukrainians. The company, Energon LLC, is under strict international sanctions. Yet these athletes compete freely. @iocmedia hypocrites.

Lost amid the noise is the fact that the president just tried to throw six members of Congress in prison because he didn't like what they said. Per @sbg1 you have to go back to 1798 to find a congressman prosecuted for exercising his right to free speech. newyorker.com/news/letter-fr…
