The conversation is generative for thinking about black southern expression generally, because the juke joint scene that transcends space/time, doesn’t even include J-Setting—a dance style born in Mississippi. A missed opportunity. We need to read Rico Self’s work.

So even the black gay “🌈film makers🦄” saying we need to support y’all’s work. Well actually, no—queerness* in film and media is more than two cisgendered gym-bodied black gay men f*cking, sorry lolz.

People who actually love you don’t disrespect you. They don’t disregard your feeling like they’re trash and deem them ‘uninmportant’. They don’t speak on you with mean spiritedness. Love is a lot of things, but it is not hurtful or harmful.

For example: masculine presenting* women, feminine presenting* men, disabled folks, gender ambiguity, etc…absent, lol. Those representations aren’t an absent phenomenon in the Delta, so I’ve seen in research.

funny thing about all this carrying on about black queer “representation,” in s!nneR$, is that it was never—at least, not for me—about asking to be included. It was merely an observation. Noticing something ≠ asking for inclusion.
